    DPS - THP - AIS Data Entry Operator GENERAL DESCRIPTION ****

    Perform routine (journey-level) and varied complex data entry work. Work involves entering data into a computerized information system within the Texas Highway Patrol Division. Work under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met. 25B, 89A, 275, IT, 6046, 3A1X1, 4A1X1, 25, 89, 60, 3A, 4A ESSTENTIAL DUTIES **** 1. Perform data entry and verification of data files for the Texas Highway Patrol Division. 2. Transcribe enforcement related documents to acceptable formats for entry into THP database. 3. Prepare error reports for applications and corrects data entry errors. 4. May advise others on work procedures. 5. May verify data entered by others. 6. Advise supervisor of equipment and data entry program malfunctions. 7. Assist in planning and assigning work loads. 8. Assist in the preparation and documentation of procedures. 9. May train others. 10. Perform other duties as assigned. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS **** Education High School Diploma/equivalent. Experience Minimum of 1 years' work experience performing data entry; operating a personal computer, mainframe computer or other data entry peripheral equipment. Licensure and/or Certification Must possess a valid driver license and automobile insurance. Regulatory/Compliance Must possess a working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures; business office practices and procedures; pertinent record- retention, record-keeping systems and related form processing. Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail Must possess a working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to data entry document flow; procedures for controlling, logging, batching, editing, coding, or balancing data entry or information retrieval work area; and of research techniques. Must be able to detect and resolve error conditions, to select and transcribe data. Communication and Interpersonal/Relationship Management Skills Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers. Flexibility/Adaptability Must demonstrate an ability to effectively shift priorities/tasks as necessary or directed and on short notice. Must be open and receptive to change, focusing on positive approaches and outcomes. Must be able to perform repetitious work in a confined area with minimal opportunity for social contact. Initiative Must demonstrate a proactive approach to duties, anticipating potential needs, complications, and remedies. Organizational and Prioritization Skills Must demonstrate an ability to prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment, able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism. Research and Comprehension Must be able to understand and effectively applying complex oral and written instructions and procedures involved with processing and entry of THP enforcement activity and to train other operators. Must have the ability to learn violation codes and procedures for entry of documents into the THP automated system. Responsibility/Accountability Must be able to self-audit own work, ensuring accuracy and completeness; must demonstrate an "ownership" of work product and duties, and an ability to accept direction and constructive review in a positive manner. Stress Tolerance Must demonstrate an ability to handle high-volume workloads, and competing demands, interruptions, and distractions in a steady and calm manner. Must be able to enter data accurately at moderate speed; perform effectively and rationally under stress, and must exercise appropriate judgment in what and how communications and/or interactions occur. Technology (Computers/Hardware/Software) Must have knowledge of data entry equipment and programs, as well as the capabilities and limitation of those programs. Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) and be able to learn new software/systems. Confidentiality and Protected Information Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information. Travel and/or Schedule Requirements Occasional travel for training and presentations. May be required to work hours outside of normal shift due to special assignments/projects. Only those who qualify on the testing will proceed to the interview. **** DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group and state title will be transferred with no salary change. **** DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase up to 3.4%. **** Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
