What you will be doing...

The 5G Network Performance Engineer is the main RAN Systems engineering resource for Verizon’s Business and Government Customer Operations (BGCO) Advanced Solutions. This role is responsible for executing the delivery, performance monitoring, and optimization of new and existing enterprise private LTE/5G and in-building systems based on a suite of market-leading OEM Private Wireless Network platforms and equipment. As a RAN performance lead, you will support day-1 and day-2 operations teams as they deliver and maintain the most advanced and cutting-edge private 5G networks.

Customers expect our networks to perform at a high level consistently. You will investigate, evaluate, and resolve network and data performance issues to ensure efficient and reliable service for our customers, thereby directly impacting customer satisfaction and maintaining our competitive edge. You will serve as a cross-functional lead, interacting professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

Other key activities include but are not limited to the following...

• Evaluating and developing improved service performance trend reports and isolating root causes of impacted services.

• Defining and performing testing and analysis of relevant key performance indicators.

• Building program-level network performance processes

• Mentoring and educating cross-functional teams on industry and program best practices

• Supporting and mentoring day-2 support and monitoring teams responsible for managing day-to-day network operations

• Compiling and presenting executive reports and program analyses to upper leadership

• Coordinating technical investigations and testing with appropriate regional, area, and HQ functions.

• Consulting customers and sales teams on LTE/5G network design and optimization best practices and strategies

• Providing technical analysis, troubleshooting, and training assistance to markets and regions as requested.

• Optimizing networks using traditional and innovative means.

• Investigating and resolving customer complaints regarding service.

• Trending, reporting, and evaluating network KPIs, as well as identifying new performance indicators for private enterprise wireless networks

• Coordinating installation, testing, and troubleshooting on voice and data network platforms and transmission facilities

• Maintaining system applications using traffic and capacity monitoring tools to track errors and keep the network performing optimally.

• Composing reports for system documentation to maintain compliance and performance standards.

You’ll need to have...

• Bachelor’s Degree or four or more years of work experience.

• Four or more years of relevant work experience.

• Experience with Ericsson/Nokia/Samsung systems, and major DAS systems like Commscope, Mobile Access, Solid and JMA

• Experience with LTE/5G architecture and industry standard propagation and optimization modeling tools for deployment in both commercial & enterprise scenarios.

• Willingness to travel estimated at < 25% of the time.

Even better if you have...

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher with a focus in Electronics, Electronics Engineering, or Telecommunications.

• Expertise of LTE including VoLTE and RAN networks.

• CCNA or JNCIA Certification.

• Experience with Atoll, or similar RF propagation and database tools

• iBwave Level 1 Certification or higher.

• General knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment.

• General knowledge of transmission facilities (dark and lit fiber services, Ethernet, OCn, T3, T1, and DSO).

• General knowledge and understanding of routing protocols.

• General knowledge of OSI model, especially layers 1-3

• Experience with Cisco and Sienna routers.

• Training or experience in any of the following areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, networking or router support or working knowledge of DC power rectification and battery systems.

• Demonstrated project management skills.
