    When you join Verizon

Verizon is one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services, transforming the way we connect around the world. We’re a human network that reaches across the globe and works behind the scenes. We anticipate, lead, and believe that listening is where learning begins. In crisis and in celebration, we come together—lifting up our communities and striving to make an impact to move the world forward. If you’re fueled by purpose, and powered by persistence, explore a career with us. Here, you’ll discover the rigor it takes to make a difference and the fulfillment that comes with living the #NetworkLife.

    What you’ll be doing...

As a leader on the NBx (Next Best Decisioning) Performance team, you will ensure that analytics drive continuous business improvements, bringing more profitable growth and an even better customer experience. Your end goal is to define the measure of success for an AI algorithm and provide the business with those KPIs to drive strategic and tactical decision making across the organization.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Developing rigorous requirements and definitions for KPIs, metrics, and attributes, accounting for end-user needs, granularity, edge cases, holdout measurement, and future extensibility.

    • Working as a SME in your domains and a source of knowledge for other NBx Performance team members.

    • Engaging with stakeholder teams to clearly define the business objectives and success measures of the program.

    • Developing prototype visualizations.

    • Partnering with resources from GTS and AI&D technology teams to groom the business reporting requirements into technical development requirements, taking ownership of the end product and driving to hit timelines.

    • Where there are potential hurdles or blockers, you will bring together the appropriate teams and partner towards a resolution, flexibly swapping hats as needed.

    • Validating the output of delivered reporting, ensuring data integrity, diving deep into back-end data where needed, and capturing/submitting any defects identified.

    • Presenting the completed reporting output back to the business stakeholder for user acceptance.

    • Productionizing ad-hoc data requests and exploratory analyses executed elsewhere on the NBx Performance team that have exceeded the usefulness/reusability threshold.

    What we’re looking for…

You are an experienced reporting/analytics leader and an expert in your field. You regularly process and analyze big data. You can visualize the big picture strategy and then can break it down into the components to get the job done. You believe that the best decisions are based on data, and you’re the one that knows how to tease out the key learning within a dataset. You work quickly and know how to deliver to tight timelines. You proactively research emerging developments in data mining, analytics, and visualization and apply what you learn to the projects at hand. You are a good listener, a strong communicator, and an accomplished storyteller, able to summarize and frame requirements to peers, stakeholders, and partner groups. You take great pleasure in sharing learnings and best practices with your team.

    You’ll need to have:

    • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

    • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

    • Experience developing general reporting, KPIs, metrics, and attributes.

    • Experience managing time-bound project deliverables for multiple stakeholders.

    • Experience writing SQL queries and scripts using relational databases like Teradata, Google Cloud, Oracle, SQL Server and pulling data from Hadoop/HIVE SQL/EDW data warehouses.

    • Data visualization skills and hands-on experience using Tableau and/or Qlik with SQL skills.

    • Experience evaluating and testing various alternative approaches and recommending the path forward.

    • Experience monitoring performance and reporting ongoing and ad hoc metrics in reports, presentations, and dashboards targeted to the situation and audience.

    Even better if you have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Analytics, a related field or four or more years work experience.

    • Masters degree or PhD in Math, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field.

    • Coding experience (e.g. Python, Java, C/C++).

    • Experience with algorithms and measuring their success.

    • Driving new product development and launches with data-driven insights.

    • Performing advanced analytics, modeling and data mining to develop insights on our business.

    • Strong problem solving, analytical, and research capabilities.

    • Strong verbal and written communication and storytelling skills.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
