The Federal Income Tax Consultant will report to the Associate Director – Federal Income Tax Compliance. This role will primarily support the preparation of Verizon’s consolidated federal income tax return and tax provision and will have the ability to drive change through the use of process automation and digital tools.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and review of Verizon’s consolidated federal tax return including preparing tax adjustments, preparing and reviewing tax forms, gathering the data necessary to complete the return, and other various tasks necessary to complete the tax return.
Prepare and calculate federal tax adjustments necessary to complete Verizon’s income tax provision.
Identify and gather necessary information and documentation to substantiate and support the tax return and tax provision processes while demonstrating the ability to understand the book and tax treatment of transactions.
Prepare workpaper documentation and calculations in support of significant tax items or book-to-tax adjustments, as needed.
Manage the federal compliance process for various other tax types such as insurance, excise, and private foundations.
Prepare supporting workpapers and ensure proper documentation is obtained and maintained to adequately support the information included on the tax returns upon audit.
Support other groups within Income Tax by performing various tasks when requested and available, such as aiding in the preparation of state tax adjustments or other state tax projects.
Support special project assignments, such as acquisitions, dispositions, tax audits, etc., as necessary. Perform tax research and analysis and prepare memorandums in support of findings.
Streamlining and optimizing tax processes through the use of various digital finance tools, including Alteryx, Qlik and other technologies.
Provide support to tax managers and develop and maintain a relationship with other tax department professionals. Show the ability to present tax matters/findings to senior leaders throughout the Tax Department.
Be a team player and someone who possesses the capability to lead through their actions and experiences and also work closely with other members of the Tax Organization.

What we’re looking for...
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Four or more years of relevant work experience.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field or four or more years of work experience.
Two or more years of relevant work experience in the income taxes field.
Strong working knowledge of federal income taxes.
Experience with OneSource Income Tax.
Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with demonstrated attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
A CPA, Masters of Tax or Masters of Accounting.
Experience with OneSource Tax Provision and OneSource Apportionment.
Working knowledge of ASC 740.
Solid data management and automation skills required; experience with Alteryx or Qlik is a significant plus.
Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with individuals in a team environment.
An ability to navigate and negotiate through conflicting demands to maintain focus on priority objectives while ensuring key stakeholders’ needs are met.
