The Main Responsibilities

Lumen’s Product and Technology organization is looking for a Software Engineer intern to join our Service Fulfillment and Inventory team. This intern will sit on the network services team focusing on network test development and HiPer Mediation applications.

Day-to-day could include:

• Planning, designing, debugging, and coding software solutions for Java application development
• Develop Java-based software using industry best practices
• Writing and implementing efficient and reusable code in Java
• Test the software to ensure it meets requirements and performs well
• Provide technical support to software users
• Troubleshoot problems with the software
• Collaborate with fellow software engineers to ensure that code is of the highest quality
• Work with product managers and designers to ensure the software is designed well and meets user needs
• Identify opportunities to improve existing Java code

What We Look For in a Candidate

Education Requirements

• Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior or master’s level education status at the start of the internship, graduating August 2024 – June 2025.
• Major/Degree: In pursuit of degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or similar STEM technical degree field.

Proficiency and understanding of;

• Experience in Java and/or C++ development
• Experience with JavaScript and/or Typescript programming
• Familiarity with website design and programming including HTML and CSS (Angular experience a plus)
• Spring framework experience (including Spring Boot)
• Analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Experience with Unix and Linux as well as deploying applications
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2)
• Agile development experience and adherence to SOLID principles
• Understanding of TCP/IP Networking and how it relates to the OSI model

Work Setting

• This is a fully remote – work from home position.
• Intern must be able to work 30-40 hours per week during the 10-week program (June – August)
• US work authorization is required

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
