This position is for a Network Operations Support intern. The projects you may work on will enhance your skills in one or more of the following areas:
Perform deep analysis on strategic initiatives to identify opportunities to reduce cost and drive efficiency in areas of safety, motor vehicles, force modeling, and strategic capital programs. This will include field visits to gain a fundamental understanding of the work that is performed by field technicians who service our customers.
Evaluate business transformation initiatives and make recommendations on process or program improvements.
Analyze performance data to create a greater impact on our field operations success - use tools like Tableau and other dashboards to create reporting.
You will be able to perform initial analysis to assess the quality of data, a methodical and logical approach, and be able to apply excellent mathematical skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
You may be able to monitor and maintain the Network systems to ensure system availability and functionality.
Evaluates the Network's activity to identify where it is not functioning optimally which can range from equipment to network issues. You may be responsible for monitoring alarms and trouble tickets, troubleshooting issues, or escalating to the appropriate engineering teams.
Have access to broadband and 5G technology that drives our business.
In this hybrid internship, you’ll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager. This hybrid internship may be based out of Richardson TX. If relocation is required, relocation assistance may be available.

You’ll need to have:
Ability to participate in our hybrid 10-week internship that takes place from June 2, 2025, to August 8, 2025, working a full-time schedule.
Current enrollment at SMU in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program majoring in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related majors with a completion date between December 2026 and June 2028.
Coursework or demonstrated experience in TCP/IP Protocols.
Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship.
Willingness to travel and work in an assigned Verizon office.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Knowledge of LAN, WAN, and MPLS systems.
Experience in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
Demonstrated strong written and communication skills.
Project management software (ex: JIRA).
Ability to create effective presentations.
Familiarity with business and data analytics.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
