The Verizon Global Payroll team strives for the highest degree of accurate, timely, and compliant pay to our employees. The Senior Analyst of Payroll Audit plays a critical part in this. Reporting to the Supervisor of Payroll Audit, this role will be responsible for the audit and recoupment of employee overpayments, performing a variety of audit and collection activities.
Work independently to conduct complex payroll transaction audits to confirm identified employee wage overpayments, including performing gross and net pay calculations to determine amount to be collected from current and former employees.
Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action; work on problems of moderate complexity where analysis requires a review of various factors.
Ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements related to employee overpayment recoupment (i.e. statute of limitations, state deduction limits, promissory notes, etc.).
Prepare and initiate employee notifications (email and physical mail) and supporting documentation.
Respond to inquiries from employees and business partners (Human Resources, Legal, Labor Relations, etc.) related to overpayments through various methods in a timely manner.
Monitor overpayments assigned to ensure active payroll deductions and proper application of received payments. Apply and/or validate deduction setup in the payroll system, PeopleSoft HCM. Apply payments received in applicable tracking systems.
Identify and act on outstanding balances requiring heightened attention due to lack of response. Ensure notifications and follow-ups are sent according to the prescribed schedule.
Proactively seek assistance from leadership and partner teams for complex or escalated situations.
Provide assistance in developing process documentation and training material.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Three or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Relevant professional certifications (Finance, Payroll, Audit focus).
Experience with PeopleSoft HCM and Workday.
Understanding of federal, state and local wage and payroll tax requirements.
Knowledge of payroll practices, policies and procedures.
Experience performing audits of financial transactions.
Employee or customer collections background.
Data analysis, reporting or dashboard experience.
Experience working in a team environment with the ability to collaborate with and support team members across different groups throughout a complex organization.
Experience building and maintaining cross-departmental relationships.
Proficiency working with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite of tools.
Demonstrated strong organizational, critical thinking and time management skills.
Ability to manage large work volumes, show flexibility, and adapt to change.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills; strong written communication, capability to communicate clearly and effectively across various levels in the organization.
Ability to communicate with empathy and compassion.
Proactive, results-oriented approach, with a sense of urgency.
