Verizon seeks a qualified Senior Manager, State and Federal Policy to join its Public Policy and Government Affairs legal team. This position will report to the Associate General Counsel responsible for supporting federal and state policy and regulatory affairs. The candidate will serve as an advocate for Verizon, developing policy and political strategy on a range of legislative and regulatory issues that include but are not limited to privacy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and other key policy issues prominent in both state and federal policy arenas.
The candidate must have excellent analytical capabilities, strong interpersonal skills, be able to quickly and thoroughly analyze complex legislation in a fast-paced environment, and have the ability to manage multiple projects. He or she will combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing public policy activities, government, and industry lobbying efforts, and identifying new opportunities to favorably advance Verizon’s policy agenda.
Executing strategies for advancing complex policy frameworks that address privacy, artificial intelligence, and other critical business issues that create a platform for long-term growth for Verizon, our employees, and our shareholders.
Analyzing and evaluating complex legislation to assess potential impacts on Verizon in consultation with internal stakeholders across multiple business and policy teams.
Advising internal stakeholders on the impact of public policy, procedures, issues and matters.
Coordinating across internal policy and regulatory teams to coordinate resources, aligning strategy, and streamlining work processes.
Identifying and communicating corporate positions and objectives to both internal and external stakeholders.
Developing relationships with internal stakeholders across business units, keeping relevant business teams apprised of important policy developments and seeking feedback on novel legislation and regulatory issues.
Developing relationships with external stakeholders, including outside counsel, trade associations, and industry colleagues in order to build our advocacy network and advance Verizon’s policy positions.
Drafting talking points, position papers, and external narratives setting forth Verizon’s policy perspectives and arguments.
Tracking and monitoring legislative and regulatory activity for high impacts to the company.
You’ll need to have:
Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and / or military experience, or specialized training.
Experience managing multiple projects independently in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Advanced degree - JD preferred
Excellent communications skill, both verbal and written.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Strong advocacy/negotiation skills.
Willingness to take on and learn new issue areas that arise.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to understand business goals, and identify global legislative and regulatory opportunities and risks.
Genuine interest in and excitement about government affairs and advocacy.
Confidence, versatility and a strong work ethic.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $121,000.00 and $225,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
