    What you’ll be doing...

    • Responsible for developing and implementing Verizon's legislative strategy, community engagement tactics and content in support of company goals and positions across all business units.

    • Responsible for representing Verizon and working with third parties to influence policy makers at the municipal and state government level across the state of Virginia and support West Virginia, DC and Maryland teams as needed.

    • Accountable for strengthening VZ’s political impact using extensive government experience and networks.

    • Supporting Verizon state regulatory team to influence decisions in key regulatory initiatives

    • Responsibilities relating to identifying and influencing proposed municipal and state legislative activities working with advocates.

    • Planning and executing strategies to ensure that any municipal and state legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company.

    • Interacting with members of municipal and state legislative bodies.

    • Keeping management informed of pending legislation.

    • Serving as primary strategic liaison to company affiliations, special business, third party groups, grassroots local influencers and thought leaders.

    • Providing team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders.

    • Planning and developing strategic messaging.

    • Representing Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at council meetings/hearings that address legislation impacting Verizon.

    • Compiling competitive intelligence.

    • Responsibilities relating to identifying and influencing proposed local legislative activities.

    • Supporting cross functional wireless and wireline consumer business and network teams in delivery of next generation interactive media, video, OTT (Over The Top) Video, voice, data, cloud gaming, and connected home services via local franchise agreements.

    What we’re looking for...

    • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training. ​

    • Experience in state and municipal government relations with an understanding of local government and its external and internal influencers.

    • High level of expertise in advocacy/issues management, community organizing, and coalition-building. Exceptional knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the municipal and state level.

    • Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications policies and positions.

    • High level of knowledge concerning economic regulation in the communications, cable, or utilities industries.

    • Willingness to travel extensively within territory in personally owned vehicle.

    • Ability to work both during normal business hours, as well as evenings and weekends should the circumstances require availability.

    • Demonstrated communications skills, both verbal and written.

    • Demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives.

    • Strong organizational and planning skills

    • Ability to work with all levels of management

    Even better if you have one or more of the following:

    • Law degree

    • Highest level of personal integrity

    • Public policy, community engagement, advocacy experience on behalf of a technology, communications, cable TV or public utilities business/industry.

    • Broad knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory.

    • Strong leadership skills.

    • Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity.

    Where you’ll be working

    In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.

    If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $121,000.00 and $225,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
