  • Responsibilities

    The Summer Internship Program lasts approximately 10 weeks and is targeted to students entering the final year of their undergraduate or graduate education. After orientation and intensive training, summer interns will join one of our business lines, each of which offers a unique opportunity to obtain core technical knowledge and professional skills in a diverse and global environment.

    Loss Prevention Engineering Division

    • Working alongside and under the mentorship of an experienced Account Engineer, while coordinating with Property Risk Engineers, Loss Prevention Summer Associates (LPSAs) gain exposure to Global Property Risk Engineering.
    • Property Risk Engineers serve as the firm’s fire protection and engineering subject matter experts and have the opportunity to present at broader Commercial Property Casualty engineering reviews.
    • LPSAs will have the opportunity to conduct site surveys at various locations and occupancies and assess risk of Commercial Property while gaining first-hand knowledge of the role a Property Risk Engineer and its unique value in the Insurance Industry.

    The unique exposure to Property Risk Engineering provides many career path opportunities and is in a direct path to allow the LPSA to be considered for a Full-Time role as a Loss Prevention Associate upon graduation. Engineers who become Loss Prevention Associates at AIG look forward to successful careers with career path choices including roles in Risk Engineering, Account Engineering, Engineering Management, and Property Underwriting.

    Summer interns establish goals with their managers during the first week, and the goals are measured at the mid and end points of the summer. Successful summer interns may be considered for full-time analyst positions to begin summer of 2019.

  • Qualifications

    Required:

    • Minimum grade point average of 3.2 (unofficial transcript required upon application)
    • Bachelors or Master’s degree, or candidate for Bachelors or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline to be received no later than June 2019
    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License with a minimum of 2 years driving history *Not required for Japanese citizens.

    Preferred:

    • Familiar with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards
    • Degree or completed coursework in Fire Protection Engineering
    • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills
    • Demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement
    • Possess strong analytical, quantitative and interpersonal skills
    • Enthusiastic about and committed to the insurance industry

    The ideal candidates will be bold thinkers with an entrepreneurial bent, and will possess a powerful blend of IQ (technical skills, consistent learning, statistical & financial acumen) and EQ (adaptive communication, empathy, listening skills, challenging with humility).
