    About Our MLS Underwriting Team

    Nationwide specializes in providing professional liability insurance. We provide public and private D&O products along with ancillary coverages. The Underwriting department consists of a Commercial team, a Financial Institution team, a Cyber team, an Excess Casualty team, and a Private team. Each group has underwriters and managers with various levels of expertise. As an MLS Underwriting Intern, you will gain tangible, hands-on experience and insight into all aspects of our business.

    A day in the life of a MLS Underwriting Intern might include:

    • Learning the importance of customer relationships and what underwriters are looking for in each risk
    • Involvement in company projects
    • Working through case studies with mentors and individually
    • Learning about the unique accounts we insure
    • High performing interns may be considered for a full-time job after graduation.

    About You

    A successful MLS Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has:

    Education

    • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, Insurance, or a related field of study
    • Completion of junior year is preferred
    • Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience

    Skills/Competencies

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
    • Exposure to insurance or finance concepts/coursework is preferred
    • Problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to use judgement in recognizing problems, determining appropriate actions, and implementing solutions
    • Ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team environment
    • Natural curiosity to explore and question
    • Negotiation and interpersonal skills
    • Time management and service orientation

    Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program. At its sole discretion, Nationwide determines whether to offer sponsorship for qualifying positions based on business need and budget. However, it is not usually available for entry level roles.

    Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment.

    The national hourly pay range for Nationwide Internships is: $21 - $50
