This Global Head of Field Medical Excellence sets global standards for our field teams across all TAs while supporting local tailoring where applicable. It maintains holistic understanding of field needs, with a global perspective and collects, interprets and shares the highest value, business critical medical insights captured in the field - bringing them back to the internal medical functions to help further shape the medical strategy.

The role synthesizes and elevates voice of the field to leadership to ensure the needs of the end users are fully considered in content and systems creation and delivery. By providing the right resources and tools to the field we will enable them to be most effective and focus on the field execution. It supports development of the field team with training, best practice sharing and metrics and will develop systems and reporting frameworks to allow consistent and reliable measurement of activity and impact. This role will be part of the Scientific Partnership function to deliver the tools, resources and materials needed by the field to ultimately create a climate in which self-motivated individuals will aspire to higher levels of performance.

Main responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with the SSE, SP, Country Medical Leads and MSL Leads to:
• Lead, develop and successfully deploy MSL engagement strategy and execute initiatives across the globe;
• Develop and maintain a global forum for MSL best practice sharing
• Serve as MSL strategy & execution point of contact for senior medical leadership
• Represent the field medical function at global cross functional level
• Identify measurable goals and KPIs to ensure execution of the global field medical affairs plan and demonstrate value (qualitative & quantitative). Regularly benchmark Biogen performance and approach vs relevant competitors.
• Develop systems for regular and accurate reporting of activity, goals and tracking vs KPIs for Biogen leadership
• Play a key leadership role within Scientific Partnership and WWM, including providing best-practice sharing across countries, therapeutic areas, and products.
• Provide input to the WWM Field Medical budgeting and planning process.
• Develop long range field medical resourcing plans with flexibility built in to meet the needs of future pipeline
• Create a platform to assess current field medical talent and identify growth and development opportunities, fostering a culture of high performance and urgency, ensuring that Biogen’s Field Medical leaders of the future are mentored for succession and retained.
• Create a climate in which self-motivated individuals will aspire to higher levels of performance by creating high standards, and by partnering with Country Medical and MSL  leads to drive, reward and recognize exceptional performance
• Collaborate with Country Medical Leads to ensure adherence to legal,, compliance and governance with external laws and internal regulations regarding the appropriate conduct of Field Medical activities across the globe.

Qualifications

The role requires someone with:

• An advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD, PharmD) and 7+ years relevant industry experience.

• Prior experience as an MSL and MSL manager across multiple therapeutic areas

• Understanding of the changing needs of HCPs and the impact of increased use of digital on HCP interactions

• Proven competence in strategic capability development, operational execution, and innovation development;

• Ability to collaborate across functions / geographies; synthesize input in an efficient, prioritized (in line with business priorities) and balanced manner;

• Proven leadership skills, including strong leadership of field-based scientific / medical professionals

• Experience in the US market is highly preferred alongside good working knowledge or evidence of other exposure to ex-US markets
