This is a hybrid work opportunity, with most of the work to occur remotely, with some in-person requirements (Indianapolis).
WHO WE ARE
Whether we’re building the world’s most efficient large aero-engine or supporting NASA missions on the edge of space, Rolls-Royce is all about innovation. We invest over $1 billion every year into research and development and pioneer cutting edge technology. Working at Rolls-Royce means being part of a global team of around 50,000 bold, curious people, creating cleaner, faster, more competitive power. It means looking to the future, and shaping the world we live in.
BUSINESS AND INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Rolls-Royce Corporation is an engineering firm that is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and is a subsidiary of its multinational parent company Rolls-Royce plc. Rolls-Royce has three core business units, Civil Aerospace, Defense, and Power Systems. The Defense unit consists of Aerospace, Naval Marine, and Nuclear Submarines, but this individual will primarily support Aerospace.
Rolls-Royce is a market leader in Defense Aerospace that provides engines for transport, patrol, combat, and training aircraft for militaries, as well as helicopters for both military and commercial customers. Rolls-Royce provides world-class products and services to help its foreign and domestic military customers safely power their missions, including the U.S. Department of Defense, which is Rolls-Royce’s largest Defense customer in the world. Many of Rolls-Royce’s Defense Aerospace products are designed, engineered, manufactured, and assembled in Indianapolis, Indiana, the home of Rolls-Royce’s largest facility in the U.S. with over 4,000 employees. The Indianapolis engineered power systems and equipment support several platforms, including the C-130J military transport aircraft; the V-22 Osprey tilt rotor aircraft; and the STOVL (short take-off and vertical landing) variant of the F-35 Lightning II.
The Commercial team, as part of our General Counsel function, exists to ensure that Rolls-Royce gets a fair return on sales through the formation, negotiation, and creation of sound commercial agreements. The commercial function is integral to:
The creation and delivery of business solutions;
Enhancing business value at appropriate levels of risk; and
Ensuring delivery of the expected business returns.
The Commercial team also ensures compliance with policies, procedures, guidelines, and contracting infrastructures that meet corporate governance and Commercial functional requirements. The Commercial function is integrated with the business, supporting customers, suppliers, and business partners, both up and down the supply chain. This is a non-traditional legal internship that couples a business and legal skill set and provides exposure to international transactions.
