    Job Description

    Summary
    Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare labor and material estimates for bridge steel, projects, or services.

    Essential Functions
    Read and understand job bid instructions, detailed plans and specifications, and prepare a "take off" of materials included in the job for the steel bridge market.

    • Estimate all necessary labor, materials, buyout items, equipment costs, freight costs (including crane costs as required) to prepare a thorough estimate and prepare project proposals.
    • Exercise good judgment and experience in working with purchasing, steel erection labor, equipment and transportation costs to arrive at full cost estimate with appropriate profit margins to achieve company goals.
    • Work directly with sales, preconstruction teams, and operations to understand size and scope of projects along with timelines and applicable project deadlines.
    • Ensure that all contractual terms, project specifications, plans and obligations of such projects are maintained and a clear understanding of project scope.
    • Meet with management if costs exceed budget and obtain permission before approving out-of-budget costs.
    • Assist in proper accounting for project change orders.
    • Interface with Estimating Manager and any necessary departments to determine the scheduling of work and materials.
    • Meet with vendors to identify potential barriers with resolutions that maximize production and minimize costs.
    • Prepare reports for management, i.e.: tender lists of projects being bid.
    • Meet with key personnel to ensure timeliness of project estimates to meet required bid schedules.
    • Meet and confer with sales, plant personnel to verify accuracy and completeness of all construction drawings.
    • Review plans and prepare proposals and determine proper procedures in order to accomplish company and department goals.
    • Ensure all aspects of projects are properly and thoroughly documented to ensure company interests are protected.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Associates Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Experience may substitute for education.
    • 5-10 years related experience as a Project/Construction Manager/ Estimator in the structural steel industry or 5 years related experience as a Project Coordinator/Engineer or Assistant Project Manager along with 3 years detailing/drafting.
    • A Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Structural/Civil Engineering, or Business may substitute for 3 years of the required experience.
    • Experience as a fabricator or erector may substitute for detailing/drafting experience.
    • Working knowledge of engineering and design concepts in the structural steel and bridge industry.
    • Extensive communication abilities – both oral and written, including the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively with customers.
    • PC skills to include the following software: MS Office (Word, Excel), Google Workspace.
    • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required and valid Ppassport
    • General knowledge of fabrication and erection standards and procedures.
    • General knowledge of AISC standards and AWS D1.1 & D1.5 codes and AREMA.
    • Proven ability to read and interpret shop and design drawings.
    • Proven ability to manage large, multiple bridge and commercial projects.
    • General knowledge of 3D modeling / Tekla system, and MS programs.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.

    Work Environment
    General office and production environment. Daily exposure to computer display and shop environment.
