POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fire Alarm Project Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of fire alarm technicians, ensuring that services are performed efficiently, meeting both customer and company standards. This role includes scheduling, training, and supervising technicians while maintaining a high level of service quality. In coordination with Human Resources, the supervisor will also handle hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations of team members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervision of Fire Alarm Team: Lead and manage the daily activities of fire alarm technicians, apprentices, and helpers. Approve timesheets, manage PTO requests, review expense reports, and enforce company policies.
- Customer Service: Ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery to internal and external customers by assigning work efficiently and following up on service outcomes.
- Project Management: Plan and assign work based on customer needs and system demands, ensuring timely completion of fire alarm system installations, inspections, repairs, and maintenance.
- Budget Oversight: Develop and manage budgets for your area, ensuring financial responsibility across all operations.
- Material and Equipment Management: Oversee procurement and movement of equipment, ensuring necessary tools and materials are available for each project.
- Training & Development: Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to your team. Ensure team members have the resources and skills needed for fire alarm system tasks and maintain certifications as required.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with fire safety codes and standards, and that proper documentation is filed with customers, the company, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Auditing & Quality Control: Audit completed job files for compliance with company policies, fire codes, and contractual requirements. Investigate discrepancies in job budgets and project schedules, and communicate necessary repairs or adjustments to the customer.
- Business Development: Identify opportunities for additional fire alarm services with existing customers and support the preparation of service proposals as needed.
- Performance Management: Ensure consistent feedback and annual evaluations are conducted for all team members, providing the necessary support and corrective actions to maintain a high-performing team.
- Emergency Services: Provide after-hours support for emergency fire alarm system service calls.
- Decision-Making Authority: Make decisions that ensure successful completion of projects, while maintaining customer satisfaction and upholding company values.
- Safety Compliance: Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring that all work is performed following company safety policies and procedures.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Strong leadership qualities and team-oriented mindset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of fire alarm systems, NFPA codes, and other industry standards.
- Competent in reading blueprints, shop drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to use trade tools and equipment.
- Organized and able to manage multiple projects, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Positive and professional demeanor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in fire alarm systems, including installation, inspection, and repair.
- NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems (or ability to obtain within the first year of employment).
- Proven experience in supervising or leading fire alarm teams is strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Able to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to drive and travel to various job sites as needed.
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures and environmental conditions.
