    What's the job?

    Health & Safety Specialist

    The Health & Safety Specialist will provide leadership to the Health & Safety programs at the plant, within the defined World Class Manufacturing framework, in a manner consistent to the Vision, Mission and Values of the CertainTeed Insulation and Saint Gobain culture.

    With strategic guidance from both the central function and local Plant Manager, this hands-on position will; ensure corporative and provincial legislative compliance, develop and maintain Saint Gobain safety standards, continue developing an autonomous H&S culture, promote defined Health and Wellness programs, define H&S operating procedures, provide H&S training, develop risk identification and reduction awareness and methods according with Saint Gobain requirements, all achieved through participation and employee engagement.

    Responsibilities

    • Communicate with employees to learn about potential hazards in their work environment that lead to accidents or injuries and evaluate the corrective actions and may prevent future incidents.
    • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine their causes and to determine whether the incidents could have been or can be prevented.
    • Identify and correct potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment / Identifies safety opportunities and develop solutions of corrective actions.
    • Provide interactive, hands-on coaching and mentoring to employees.
    • Provides support to project teams during delivery phase and commissioning of equipment.
    • Continuously inspect and evaluate workplace to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, and Saint Gobain safety standards / Audit against Saint Gobain Safety Standards and ensure compliance.
    • Conduct Risk Assessments with salaried and hourly employees and deliver actions to mitigate the identified risks / Assists with training for production, maintenance and warehouse personnel.
    • Provide support to all departments in enforcing plant rules and safety regulations consistent with the corporate Values and Attitudes.
    • Organize safety functions and campaigns, facilitate/lead joint health & safety meetings, help communicate safety warnings and evaluate possible occurrences at own facility.
    • Reinforce workplace safety/conduct, discipline process, and more.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

    What do you bring?

    • Technical College Degree or Certification in Safety, Hygiene and Work Safety combined with related experience.
    • 3+ years in manufacturing health and safety (Union Environment preferred).
    • Proficient in OSHA standards and compliance requirements.
    • Knowledge in Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space and Machine Guarding,
    • Experienced in incident investigation and report writing.
    • Able to be ambulatory for the majority of the 8-hour day with flexibility to work outside the shift when needed.
