    Job Summary

    The Quality Engineer at the Seattle Board Plant is responsible for developing and supervising laboratory quality management systems and testing process. Working as part of a dynamic team, the position involves participating in quality planning, quality assurance, quality control, and troubleshooting activities using continuous improvement tools.

    • Manages the lab testing activities of the laboratory testers/technicians to comply with the established quality test methods and procedures.
    • Develops and supervises the training of applicable operators and management in proper test method understanding and execution.
    • Support the development and maintenance of the plant quality management system through internal auditing and gap closure.
    • Work with the engineering team to improve process capability and support troubleshooting process and quality issues (internal or external) to improve the overall quality of the product.
    • Monitor the quality of received raw materials in the plant by reviewing quality-related documentation and performing quality testing on them, as needed.
    • Work with the suppliers as needed to resolve quality issues and disposition of defective raw materials.
    • Maintain the quality laboratory operation in the plant. Oversee purchasing of the needed supplies for the smooth operation of the quality laboratory.
    • Manage plant inspection equipment and supplies.
    • Calibrates inspection equipment, both internal and external, to maintain compliance requirements.
    • Participates and maintains various aspects of the QPC Pillar to ensure compliance to WCM quality management system requirements.
    • Performs or guides performance of sampling and testing and reporting of same through written or other means.
    • Performs or guides the performance of product and process trials and reporting of the same.
    • Participate in corporate audit and external regulatory audits. Actively take part in the resolution of the identified
    • non-compliance or process/system gaps using CAPA.
    • Provides Laboratory support for the Line and SPA improvement initiatives.
    • Performs backup functions as required or other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics
    • Three (3) or more years of experience within a manufacturing environment in chemical and/or metal industries.
    • ASQ CQE certification -- Preferred
    • Proven ability to read, write, interpret and/or apply instructions, including technical manuals. Required working knowledge of MS Office Suite, SharePoint, data analysis, and reporting.
