    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Perform a variety of professional duties involved in developing and delivering occupational health services for Tyler Union; assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating health maintenance and health education programs; contribute to the design of health controls and medical surveillance relative to toxic or hazardous conditions in the work environment.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBLITIES include the following:

    • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
    • Assist in planning, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating occupational health and wellness programs for Tyler Union; assist in developing objectives for occupational health services through a collaborative role with Company Safety Manager and Company Medical director.
    • Provide on-site emergency care to employees, direct and manage work-related injuries and chronic health care issues of employees and providing medications, health assessments, and referrals as directed by Company Medical Director.
    • Develop, maintain, and audit employee’s health and medical surveillance records to ensure continuity of care, employee confidentiality, and feedback to management, in compliance with government regulation, McWane Health and Safety Programs and applicable codes of ethics.
    • Perform worksite walk-through assessments to determine employee work processes and potential sources of illness and injury; use epidemiological methods to define and monitor the health and safety needs of Company employees; contribute to the design of health controls and medical surveillance guidelines of actual and potential toxic or hazardous conditions in the work environment.
    • Assist in evaluating the occupational health and safety programs and recommend changes in policies, procedures, or programs; assist in eliminating work-related injuries as well as controlling working compensation costs.
    • Provide individual counseling sessions to employees on health maintenance and medical issues, results of health screenings and health care services. Recommend, purchase, and maintain medical supplies and equipment necessary for the optimal functioning of the occupational health clinic.
    • Collaborate with other on-site members of the occupational safety and health team, occupational medicine physician(s), workers compensation administrator, industrial hygienist, safety engineers, management and union representatives. Participate in continuing education to update knowledge of occupational health and safety including legal regulations applicable to occupational health and safety.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • High School diploma is required.
    • 5 years of previous Occupational Health experience required.
    • 5 years of Medical Document Management.
    • Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/1st Aid certification required.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, as well as a strong background working with computers.
    • Knowledge of State of Alabama Workers’ Compensation Program.

    Physical requirements of this job include considerable use of arms and legs, and whole-body movements, including climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
