Role Overview As a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern, you will support the designing and analysis activities of Gas Turbine Fuel System Components. Our team is responsible for the design and analysis of Fuel Nozzles, Valves and Manifolds. This internship will provide the opportunity for you to learn and understand the principles of operation of a Gas Turbine Engine and the Combustion System. These components are highly engineered to the customer requirements. We partner with world renowned companies allowing you the opportunity to support some of the leading aerospace manufacturers on exciting engine programs. In addition, you will get to develop your skills in customer interactions, program management and execution, 3-D modeling and analysis, and component testing. You will be paired with a mentor to support product development activities, including SolidWorks modeling and basic ANSYS FEA thermal and structural analyses. You will work on new designs, design improvements and fielded hardware. Thermal and structural analyses will be performed to validate that the design meets the customer requirements. Reports are written for internal documentation and customer communication. The Mechanical Design Engineering Intern shall be responsible for: -Solid Modeling and ANSYS FEA analysis of our products -Supporting the coordination of projects in production and in development at the lab -Continuing implementation and updating of nozzle and valve databases, allowing quick access to our most common products -Coordinating and documenting updates to our ANSYS/Design Life materials database with our latest material properties (Non-linear analysis properties and strain life properties) -Participating in the implementation of our electronic Design Handbook -Supporting the archival of previous program documents for quick access by the engineering community Qualification: Basic Qualifications -At least a Junior status (60 + credit hours) by start date, with completed course material relating to the mechanical design of products (heat transfer, fluids, materials, machine design and analysis) -GPA of 3.0 or above is required -Must be willing to work 40 hours per week -Due to federal regulation or contracting requirements, this position is only available to U.S. persons Preferred Qualifications -Proficient in MS Office products and SolidWorks desirable -ANSYS experience -Critical and strategic thinking ability -Innovative -Strong interpersonal and communications skills -Ability to work independently -Results-oriented -Strong analytical skills coupled with the ability to develop strategy -Ability to collaborate and work effectively in teams Due to federal regulation or contracting requirements, this position is only available to U.S. persons.
