    Planner (Turnaround Planning) Responsible for planning, estimating, and scheduling maintenance outages, emergency outages, Turnarounds, Catalyst change outs, and Capital scope integration within outages. Contributes with scope development and risk based reviews on Turnarounds and Outages. * Builds, reviews, and manages work scopes that include selected scope of fixed equipment (exchangers, towers, drums, compressors, PSVs, ect.), rotating equipment, instrumentation scope, electrical scope, piping, and SAP work items. * Oversees, reviews, and approves detailed job packages for relevant content, required information, alignment with environmental and safety procedures. * Contributes with the evaluation of long lead contractors and materials. * Builds work breakdown structures and work scope activities in a scheduling software (Primavera), assigns resources, work order numbers, shift calendars, project codes, layouts, and structure custom reports. * Integrates engineered capital project work into overall Turnaround project schedule. * Establishes critical path from oil out to oil in. * Accesses and analyzes critical path for threats to project success and communicates them accordingly. * Strategically schedules contractors scope and unit systems within the critical path window. * Levels resources and develops required project manpower headcount. * Estimates project budgets for project funding which includes indirect cost, labor cost, material cost, equipment cost, and infrastructure cost. * Prepares and supplies drawings, isometrics, sketches, specifications, procedures, etc. that will aid Valero and contractor supervision in estimating and executing planned work scope. * Manages the project schedule during execution by updating, analyzing critical path and total float, evaluating schedule logic, evaluating resource allocations, entering and estimating extra work and field change orders, reporting schedule data to cost controls, and providing progress reports. * Maintains historical records essential to effectively plan and scheduling future projects. * Participates in post lessons learned and implements them on future projects. * Proficient and available to cover for Maintenance Supervisors when needed. * Contacts and schedules turnaround resources according to their start dates. * Assumes On-Call duties and participates in emergency call outs as required. Presents a weekly safety meeting during On-Call weeks to the maintenance department. * Other duties may be assigned. This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay. * High school diploma or GED is required. * Bachelors degree (or higher) preferred. * A minimum of 3 years of planning experience in Refinery Maintenance required. * A minimum of 3 years experience using Primavera Project Planner (P6) on Turnarounds required. * Experience conducting maintenance planning using Microsoft Excel required. * Experience conducting maintenance planning using SAP preferred. * Experience with producing and/or reading engineering drawings such as plot plans, piping isometrics, instrument loop drawings and P&ID's is preferred. * Experience with using VTEP interface is preferred. * Ability to work extended hours and weekends required. * Excellent oral and written communication skills required. * Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements. * Ability to self-direct and work with minimum supervision required. Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. About the Wilmington Refinery The Valero Wilmington Refinery was commissioned in 1969 and has had three major expansions to become a fully integrated refinery and several upgrades to meet clean-fuel standards. The Wilmington refinery processes a blend of California and foreign crude oil, as well as unfinished feedstocks from local and foreign sources. Given its coking and desulfurizing capabilities, it is particularly well-suited to process lower-cost heavy, high-sulfur crude oils and feedstocks. The refinery also produces 15 percent of the asphalt supply in southern California. Refined products are distributed from the Wilmington refinery through a network of third-party pipelines and terminals in southern California, Nevada and Arizona, and then on to wholesale and retail customers.
