Position Overview: The Washington Capitals Seasonal Communications Intern is responsible for assisting in all day-to-day operations of the Communications Department. The position is an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the professional sports public relations industry. This is a paid internship (up to 25 hours per week) that requires a commitment beginning in August 2018 and runs through the duration of the of the 2018-19 NHL season. Responsibilities: Work closely and collaborate with full-time communications staff members to help coordinate public and media relations efforts of the department. Compile daily media clips. Prepare graphics and editorial content using Adobe InDesign. Provide editorial and research support for statistical projects. * Provide editorial support for a variety of projects, such as news releases, media guide, yearbook, game program and postseason guide. Manage team photographs including archiving. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Must be an undergraduate or graduate student. Possess a degree or working towards a major in communications, English, journalism, business, sports management or other related major. Experience with Adobe InDesign. Dedicated, hard-working, punctual, dependable, self-reliant, resourceful and a team player. Self-starter who takes the initiative and utilizes their decision-making abilities. Strong writing, editing, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work on deadline, manage multiple tasks while working independently or as part of a team. Candidates must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays, and must be available for all Capitals home games. Reliable transportation and housing.
