  • Responsibilities

    Major Duties (Job Description)

    • You will serve as a Department Chief Scientist (DSCI) in one of the NIWC Departments focused on applying new developments in business IT and general Information Technology to Naval challenges.
    • You will advocate for the transition of technology into host Department projects and programs including development of advanced information technology roadmaps and forecasts.
    • You will develop and maintain integrated strategic science and technology investment plans of growth of a variety of information technologies.
    • You will assess technologies and technology concepts to determine adequacy in meeting Department, program office, and warfighter needs.
    • You will be an advocate for NIWC by working in groups and boards across the Navy and DoD to support Departments.
    • You will advocate for the use of Science and Technology in the host Department, encouraging the use of funding avenues to develop Information Technologies (IT) that could support department customers.
    • You will coordinate with other DSCIs on joint projects and proposals across multiple Departments.

    Qualification Summary

    Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: utilizing research and development to support Navy and Marine Corps customers AND/OR NIWC Atlantic departments with new capability; addressing operational gaps by using information technology. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
