    What You’ll Do…

    This position is located at our R&D Facilities in Houston, Texas.  Our intern program philosophy is to “recruit once, hire twice” with the hope to hire interns back into full-time or return internship roles.  

    The internship program assignments are 10-14 weeks in duration and are full-time in-person internships.  The summer 2025 internship is expected to begin on May 19, 2025.

    Position Overview:

    Apply your physics expertise to real-world technology development in the oil and gas sector as an Intern Nuclear Physicist at Halliburton. Collaborate closely with Senior Scientists and the Team Leader in advancing nuclear logging measurements for oil and gas wells within the Technology department of Sperry Drilling, a Halliburton product service line. Join a team focused on developing resilient downhole tools for drilling and logging, capable of delivering laboratory-grade measurements in extreme drilling environments.

    Responsibilities:

    • Innovative Design: Assist in developing logging instrumentation using computer modeling and hands-on experimentation.
    • Collaborative Implementation: Work alongside engineers to contribute to the integration and functionality of logging tools.
    • Data Characterization: Support the characterization of logging tools to convert measurements into desired formation properties.
    • Lab Measurement Planning: Contribute to detailed plans for laboratory measurements executed by technicians, aiding the research process.
    • Algorithm Development: Analyze laboratory and computer-modeling data to contribute to the development of algorithms.
    • Field Issue Resolution: Collaborate with field teams on troubleshooting and resolving systematic issues with logging tools.
    • Documentation: Assist in documenting work and preparing internal presentations on findings and recommendations.
    • Effective Communication: Share insights with team members, fostering a collaborative and communicative work environment.
    • Publication Support: Contribute to potential papers for conferences like SPWLA and SPE.
    • Safety Commitment: Work in compliance with Halliburton Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements.

    What You’ll Bring to Our Team

    Required Qualifications:

    • Education: Currently pursuing a Ph.D. or Master's in Physics, specializing in nuclear or particle physics, or Nuclear Engineering.
    • Skills: Basic physics proficiency, familiarity with neutron and photon detection, exposure to data analysis, experimental skills, experience with MCNP, and programming knowledge (Python, C++, C#, FORTRAN).

    This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. To qualify, your university and/or permanent address must be more than 50 miles from your work location.

    • Corporate housing provided for the summer to those candidates who qualify.

    Salary Range: $31 - $36/hour
