Adjunct Professor of Great Books
JOB TYPE: Part-time
JOB SUMMARY:
A Great Books I or II instructor is responsible for teaching HU121 or HU122, core courses required of nearly all Boyce undergraduates. Each consists of a selection of complete literary works from the Western tradition (GBI: ancient and medieval literature; GBII: Renaissance to 20th century); texts are set or approved by the Coordinator of Boyce's Humanities Program. This position requires expertise in literary interpretation, close reading, generic conventions of Western prose and poetry, historical contextualization, and the Western philosophical tradition, as well as skill in applying a biblical worldview to typical aesthetic, moral, and theological questions that arise in the study of Western literature. Candidates must also be confident, creative, and capable discussion leaders. This role reports to the Program Coordinator.

EDUCATION:
Candidates for this position must hold at least a Master's degree in Classics, English Literature, or Comparative Literature (in hand), or at least 18 graduate credit-hours in one of these fields as part of a graduate degree in another field. Candidates without a Master's degree in one of these fields or the required number of graduate credit hours cannot be considered for accreditation reasons.
EXPERIENCE:
Candidates must have at least 2 years of teaching experience at the college or secondary school level. A proven track record of academic excellence and curriculum development is highly valued.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The person in this position will work in a collaborative academic environment within the Boyce Humanities Program, and can count on the counsel and support of the Program Coordinator. The work environment is centered around fostering student engagement in a Christian academic setting. Faculty members work closely together in a supportive, ministry-driven atmosphere, often coordinating with other departments, students, and administrators. Flexibility is required to meet the diverse needs of students and faculty alike.
EQUIPMENT:
The person in this position will be required to familiarize themselves with Boyce's learning management system (Canvas), which includes: using Canvas to communicate regularly with students, creating and maintaining a course module (including assignments and relevant files), and keeping student grades accurate and up-to-date.
