    Job Overview

    Join our team leading the transformation of the AFRL Digital Capabilities Directorate. We are looking to fill a senior level position serving as the Deputy CIO.

    Position Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Partners with the CIO in providing technology vision and direction for AFR
    • Works with the CIO and AFRL Directors, providing broad insight to IT domains and capabilities in support of AFRL-wide business decisions
    • Collaborates with AFRL directorates to stay informed on emerging trends in mission demand signals for technologies, aligning IT strategy implementation and operations to meet evolving business needs
    • Responsible for driving focus and prioritization within the DCD through establishing strategic planning nad governance principles and processes
    • Oversees the execution of high-impact, AFRL-wide, strategic programs, or digital transformation initiatives
    • Stays current with developments in new market trends and innovations in technology and the leadership of enterprise IT
    • Assumes full CIO responsibilities, or those responsibilities as directed, during the CIO's absence
    • Develops and manages strategic vendor and partnership relationships
    • Oversees the development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methodologies, and governance to ensure the DCD delivers values to AFRL
    • Supports the CIO's role as Center Senior Functional for IT/Cyber staff throughout AFRL
    • Establishes and implements continuous improvement programs for DCD
    • Drives and facilitates effective collaboration and communication between DCD and the customer communities
    • May regularly review IT costs and cost structures for DCD's services and products so ensuring that the financial priorities and implications of projects and activities aer communicated to AFRL leadership
    • Supports the CIO AFRL mission execution in assessing cybersecurity for Science & Technology systems

    Required Qualifications

    • US Citizenship
    • Engineering Series (0800): To meet the eligibility of an Engineer, applicants must meet the following basic requirements. Degree in Engineering. The program must have been ABET accredited.     • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lowest grade level or equivalent grade level of the position being advertised
    • Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
    • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov
    • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing

    • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype
    • Proven track record of innovation, both in internal problem-solving and in fostering innovative uses of technology in the organization
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others
    • Ability to effectively drive business culture and technology change in dynamic and complex operating environment
    • Expert in IT strategic planning, IT governance formulation, and organizational change management
    • Strong customer and user experience focus
    • Ability to adapt to a wide range of activities without losing focus in order to handle the diverse nature of tasks within the DCD effectively
    • Experience in business/industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
    • Master's degree in business, engineering, IT or a related field, or equivalent work experience
