AFWERX seeks to hire a senior-level, DO-0301-04, Supervisory Program Specialist. The incumbent will serve as the AFWERX Director of Staff (AFRL/DXX) utilizing expert level management skills to plan, develop, and lead implementation of organizational staff support requirements for a fast-paced, high-impact, geographically-dispersed & diverse organization.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Establishes and implements policies, procedures, and resource allocations that affect the entire Directorate.
- Designs, develops, and adapts proven methods and techniques to conduct studies and analyses of AFWERX programs, processes, and needs.
- Develops effective investigative techniques to resolve problems and improve overall Directorate effectiveness and responsiveness.
- Responsible for advising, assisting, and representing the Directorate in all areas of management, command and control.
- Provides for the control, coordination, and continuity of programs and operations by working with key staff in developing plans for facilities, funding, personnel, equipment, and other mission requirements.
- Responsible for effective management pertaining to the day-to-day administration of staff programs.
- Reviews technical and non-technical proposals, actions, inspections, and reports prepared by staff.
- Initiates or recommends actions to improve operations and coordination of the organization.
- Assigns and instructs specific staff tasks of preparing and implementing detailed plans, orders, reports and other staff actions.
- Represents AFWERX staff functions with HQ AF, HQ AFRL, AFMC, DoD, other services, universities, and industry.
- Supports special projects, conducts analyses, and develops briefings/reports for AFWERX leadership and the AFRL command section.
- Regularly interact with senior AFRL, MAJCOM and Air Staff leaders in the execution of organizational mission, planning and processes.
2024 Pay Range: $129,356 - $159,950 base salary without locality. The locality will be determined based on the selected candidate's location. 2025 pay range will be determined at time of hire.
While the position location is WPAFB, Dayton, OH, the position is eligible for remote work within the continental United States. No relocation is required nor will it be provided.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- The ability to perform TDY travel approximately 15% of the time.
- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DR/DO-03/GS-14 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience in executive communications, leading strategic communications teams, and workflow management and operations. Experience gained in non-federal positions will also be reviewed for specialized experience.
