    The salary range for this position including Dayton, OH locality is: DR-02 $90,742 - $142,488 and DR-03 $125,239 - $176,984.

    The Acquisition Execution Branch (AFRL/RYZZ), Sensors Directorate, seeks to hire a mid-level Air Target Identification Lead, DR-II/III in Dayton, OH.

    This position is open to candidates currently at the DR-I or DR-II (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-II or DR-III (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment.

    This position will be filled using the OPM Job Series: 0801 - General Engineer, 0855 - Electronics Engineer, 1501 - General Mathematics and Statistics, 1515 - Operations Research Analyst, 1520 - Mathematics, or 1529 - Mathematical Statistics.

    Position duties include:

    • Serve as S&T lead of the real-time Combat ID and targeting of airborne objects.
    • Guides complex exploratory and advanced research programs to develop multi-sensor and multi-platform sensor exploitation for advanced target and threat detection, registration, tracking, sensor management, identification to meet Air Force air, space, and Command and Control needs.
    • Prepare acquisition plans and work statements.
    • Evaluate contractor proposals and monitor contracted and in-house research to ensure satisfactory progress in accordance with cost, schedule, technical performance, and capability metrics/goals.
    • Lead multidiscipline, multi-organizational teams including financial managers, test managers, and technical experts to achieve program success.
    • Interfaces with AFLCMC, Major Commands, DARPA/IARPA, NASIC, SAF/AQ, HAF, contractors, and others to plan and execute timely transition of tech to operational weapon systems.
    • Supports application of disciplined Systems Engineering and Life Cycle Management processes to programs to ensure customer requirements are met and the system is designed for manufacturability and supportability across its life cycle.
    • Formulate and conduct research to include ground and flight test evaluation of evolving technological concepts.
    • Oversee advanced R&D programs spanning a wide variety of technologies including integrated sensors, electronic warfare, and combat identification for applications to DoD systems.
    • Communicate and coordinate Combat ID activities and plans with other services and organizations.
    • Provide expert technical guidance and mentoring to newer employees.

    • United States Citizenship
    • Applicants must have least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, or equivalent in other pay systems in order to qualify.
    • In order to qualify for the DR-II, one-year of specialized experience at the DR-I level includes experience developing and maturing sensors, sense-making, autonomy or spectrum warfare technologies; management of technical/research and development programs; and leadership of cross-organizational teams.
    • In order to qualify for the DR-III, one-year of specialized experience at the DR-II level includes experience with defining/solving challenging technical problems in maturing sensors, sense-making, autonomy or spectrum warfare technologies; development of complex technical areas for research and development programs to feed acquisition plans and work statements; and leading teams from multiple disciplines & organizations.
    • Position will be filled using occupational series within the SCIENTIST AND ENGINEERING career field.

    • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret with access to SCI and SAP security clearance, as condition of employment.
    • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
    • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N); experience is 4 years; and the selectee will have 60 months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained.

    • Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills for technical and senior leader audiences.
    • Ability to perform TDY travel approximately 5% time.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience in coordination of classified projects and facilities.
    • Significant experience in managing highly technical contracted projects.
