In parallel with this network growth AVANGRID is establishing a Network Monitoring Center in the heart of Rochester NY. We are looking for eager and driven individuals to work in and help build this World Class Network Monitoring Center. As a member of the NMC you will become a member of Operations Smart Grids (OSG) team, working collaboratively with OSG team members and business areas to provide Network Monitoring Services to the OSG networks The NMC Specialist is an employee of AVANGRID Operational Smart Grids team. Primary responsibility is 24 hour support of AVANGRID's national data backbone, OT Telecom Network and other departmental services. The role of the NMC Specialist is ever expanding to meet the needs of both internal and external customers. It requires highly technical skills along with the ability to interact with customers, vendors, engineers, operations and all levels of management. JOB SUMMARY: As a member of Operational Smart Grids Technologies Telecommunications Team, you will work collaboratively with Operations Technologies Team members and business areas to provide safe, reliable and cost effective telecommunication services to the organization. Specifically manage technical resources in the Network Management Center responsible for the surveillance, monitoring, upgrade and repair of the AVANGRID Networks. Resolves network or system problems with LAN, WAN, Telephone, Microwave, Fiber Optic, WiMAX and other elements. Helps to ensure network availability goals and standards are met as well as publication of operation performance metrics. MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assists in the evaluation, design and implementation of network management and automation solutions for the company 2. Resolves routine and moderately complex system/network problems. 3. Provides support to Help Desk personnel 4. Helps to implement operational performance reports and ensures timely publication 5. Interfaces with customers and department managers to ensure high network availability. 6. Monitors the OSG Telecommunications Network to ensure that the Network is healthy and running efficiently to support the customer's requirements. 7. Proactively monitor, remotely configure, manage and troubleshoot the OSG transport network. 8. Create, Assign and Escalate trouble tickets within the NMC ticket system. 9. Act as the technical support working inside a Network Management Center (NMC) to respond to network alerts in a timely manner and initiate network element system/subsystem interaction to restore network service. 10. Update/create documentation as the network evolves. 11. Provides client consultation and support and demonstrates the ability to effectively define and communicate problems, options, and recommended solutions. Day to Day Requirements & Activities: Take trouble information from various sources, open trouble tickets and own the repair process. Monitor network elements, identify problems and or potential problems, create a trouble ticket and move towards resolution. In this role, the NMC Specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting communications services and termination equipment network routers, switches, base stations, modems, etc. to isolate the trouble and take the appropriate action to resolve or escalate Work with all levels of Smart Grids Operations, Physical Security and Cyber Security in order to isolate, troubleshoot and resolve advanced network issues Utilize, manage and maintain network and performance monitoring tools to ensure network reliability (SNMP, Solarwinds, WhatsUp Gold, Nagios, Netcool) Utilize element management systems (EMS) to manage the all manufacturer's equipment distributed throughout the network. Interface with our Help Desk and assist with any and all services across the network. In this role, the NMC Specialist will be responsible for collecting, documenting, and analyzing customer trouble reports. We will use this data to correlate network paths and common elements to isolate and resolve outages or troubles on the network Work with Field Technicians, Field Engineers and local management to assist in the resolution of equipment or network level outages Work in conjunction with regional Engineering as well as local operations in an effort to identify, track and resolve congestion issues Facilitate escalation when needed to Carriers, Management and or Tier 3 Manufacturer Support, Core Engineering, Planning, Wi-Fi Engineering as required for service specific network or equipment issues Create, update and validate Core and Regional network maps and diagrams as needed Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for network outages that require details on what caused an outage, what was done to resolve it and what can be done to reduce impact or prevent future occurrences Provision daily IP address assignments, allocate and provision IP assignments, allocate and provision IP assignments. Communicate and Oversee monthly maintenance upgrades for all associated departments Requirements Education, Experience & Certifications Required: Associates degree in an Engineering discipline, Telecommunications Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience. 1-3 years in Network Operations. Basic understanding of telecommunications networks, voice and data, equipment and transmission Knowledge of computerized databases, spreadsheets and reporting tools Ability to learn and understand all aspects of the communications infrastructure including but not limited to monitoring, troubleshooting, test & turn-up, support, repair and maintenance for all layers of networks, software and associated hardware. Knowledge of Fiber, DWDM, Ethernet, Packet switching, IP/MPLS. Wireless, WiMAX a plus. Knowledge of SNMP and other Network Management Protocols is desirable. Knowledge of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools (Logrythm, McAffee, Solarwinds, etc.) is beneficial. Skills/Abilities: Diagnostic skills in PC, Network and Communications hardware and software. Willingness to work flexible schedules and support a 24x7x365 operation, including On-Call. Must be self-motivated and functional in a high stress environment Strong problem solving, quick decision making, time management, flexibility, and communication skills, oral and written. The general understanding of when to escalate problems and notify the SME's for support.
