Camp Highlander Hires two sets of staff; cabin staff and activity staff.
As a Cabin Counselor, your job is to serve and lead your campers through the day to day experience of life at Camp Highlander. This includes living in a cabin with up to 10 campers & another cabin counselor.
- Cabin duty weekly
- Support Activity Counselors at all activities
- Choose an activity to cross-train in and teach during camper choice days
- Participate in Evening Programs
- Attend Staff Meetings
- Manage camper behavior
- Maintain a clean cabin
- Write camper postcards
- Make each camper’s day every day
- There is no way to put the entire job of a counselor on paper, but if you are open to serve, maintain flexibility and keep a positive attitude you will be ready for any job!
Activity Counselor
As an activity counselor your job is to ensure the safety of all of our campers while instructing an activity. As a mentor to our campers, our activity counselors set a positive tone at their activity with high energy and enthusiasm that makes each activity fun for the campers!
- Teach an activity each day, up to 5 periods a day (arts, sports or wilderness department)
- Get trained in multiple activities to diversify your experience and maximize fun
- Supervise and ensure the health and safety of campers at all times
- Manage campers’ behavior
- Create lesson plans, including rainy day activities
- Be intentional in regards to age & gender of cabins when lesson planning
- Inspect equipment on a daily basis and keep activity area clean
- Participate in Evening Program preparation and implementation
- Cabin Duty 2 -3 times weekly
- Attend Staff Meetings
- Cleaning camp common areas (ex: ping pong & foosball tables, bathrooms, dining hall)
- Serving campers at meal times
- As an Activity Counselor, your schedule provides more flexibility than a cabin counselor. Therefore, we ask that you bring a positive attitude and a willing spirit to help with anything asked of you!
