THE COLLECTION SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST RECRUITMENT WILL BE CLOSED EFFECTIVE MIDNIGHT, DECEMBER 8, 2018. The City of Fresno is currently recruiting for a Collection System Maintenance Specialist. Under supervision, the Collection System Maintenance Specialist performs manual, semi-skilled and skilled work using mechanical equipment and related tools in the servicing/cleaning, maintenance, inspection, repair and construction work including rodding, hydroflush servicing/cleaning, television camera inspection and repair, and installation of service connections, manholes and pipelines of wastewater collection systems. This position exists in the Wastewater Management Division of Public Utilities. The eligible list created from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies during the existence of the list. ------------ The Requirements These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify. TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have: -Possession of a High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND -Two (2) years of full-time paid experience equivalent to that gained as a Collection System Maintenance Technician with the City of Fresno AND - Possession of a California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Grade II Collection System Maintenance certificate. (Must attach certificate to only application) ------------ Additional Requirements Eligibles certified for consideration for this position will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment with the City of Fresno. This position is designated as being Safety Sensitive and requires all eligibles offered employment to successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. Federal law requires that applicants for positions involving the operation of certain transit vehicles, revenue services vehicles, the transportation of hazardous materials or heavy equipment over 26,001 pounds requiring a commercial driver's license, must undergo pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment and may be subject to random alcohol and drug testing throughout their employment in this position. ------------ Additional Requirements Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver's License at time of appointment. Written Examination (Pass/Fail)- 50%: A job-related written exam will be administered which may test a candidate's knowledge in the following areas: ability to follow written instructions, safe operation of various equipment and hand tools, driving, collection systems equipment, maintenance and inspection, safety, mathematics, traffic control and interpersonal skills/customer service. The written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of TBD. A candidate must achieve a passing score to qualify for the Oral Examination. Oral Examination - 50%: A panel of subject matter experts will conduct job-related interviews to evaluate a candidate's training, experience and personal traits for the position. The City reserves the right to amend any phase of the examination process should there be a limited number of successful candidates.
