Compensation will be pro-rated based on the number of hours worked. The City of Fresno is currently recruiting for a Radio Dispatcher within the Public Safety Division of the Airports Department, located at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT). This is a permanent part-time position with regularly scheduled shifts that include days, evening, nights, holidays and weekends. Under supervision, the Radio dispatcher will operate radio communication equipment to dispatch City units and appropriate personnel in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, as well as other assigned Airport security related duties such as: -Receiving evaluating, documenting and directing emergency and non-emergency calls for service, monitoring and using CCTV and access control systems in the communications center. -Performing routine administrative office work such as filing, record keeping, and data entry. -Operating electronic fingerprint scanning system. -Occasionally monitoring and authorizing entrance of employees, visitors, and other persons to maintain security of premises. -Occasionally patrolling assigned area to ensure compliance with airport regulations. Radio Dispatcher positions are utilized in various city departments; therefore, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future vacancies in multiple departments. Two permanent part-time vacancies currently exist in the Airports Public Safety Division. Incumbents will be required to work any shift and will be required to work holidays, weekends and nights as assigned. Permanent part-time (PPT) employees are assigned no more than 24 hours a week and have the option of receiving medical, vision and dental benefits on a prorated basis. Pursuant to Fresno City Charter section 1100, Permanent Part-Time employees do not participate in the City's Retirement System. However, if successful PPT candidate has previously participated in either of the City's Retirement Systems (Fire & Police Retirement System or City of Fresno Employees Retirement System) he/she will be required to participate in the retirement system pursuant to applicable Fresno Municipal Code sections 3-334 or 3-543 pending reinstatement approval by the Retirement Board. ------------ The Requirements These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify. TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have: Education: Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED); AND Experience: One (1) year of work experience involving substantial public contact, which includes radio communication, answering telephones, and general administrative work. Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record. ------------ Additional Requirements Eligibles certified for consideration for this position will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and an extensive background check prior to employment with the City of Fresno. ------------ Selection Process The selection process may consist of the following: APPLICATION REVIEW - Qualifying Only: Applications submitted will be reviewed and a limited number of the most qualified candidates may be invited to the written examination. WRITTEN EXAM - 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered, which may test a candidate's knowledge and abilities related to customer service best practices, following written instruction, spelling, grammar, and various reporting methods. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list. The written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of October 1, 2018. ------------ Veteran Preference Regulations Qualified veterans who pass the examination may obtain five (5) additional points. Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service.
