The Fresno Police Department (FPD) strives to provide the citizens of Fresno a safe and protected community. FPD is seeking energetic, organized and dependable individuals who are committed to being a part of a vigorous law enforcement agency. The selected candidate will be expected to answer inbound calls with emphasis on high quality customer service. The incumbents receive training in answering and evaluating emergency police, fire, and medical service calls, and operating a multi-channel Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD) system console and related equipment to dispatch appropriate public safety units. Duties also include, but are not limited to, performing record checks for officers in the field, keeping records of all police units available, and responding to requests. Position reports to the Emergency Services Communications Supervisor. An Emergency Services Dispatcher I, may be flexed to an Emergency Services Dispatcher II ($3897 - $4683/mo) at the discretion of management within the first eighteen months of employment. Flexing is contingent upon successful completion of the Emergency Services Dispatcher Training Program and certification by the Police Department verifying that the incumbent is capable of performing solo radio duty. Employees may be assigned to work any eight or ten hour shift and may be required to work weekends and holidays. Shift pay is an additional $1.25 to $1.75 per hour above base rate of pay depending upon assigned shift. ------------ The Requirements These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify. TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have: One year of experience in a high volume customer service environment which included answering phones, general clerical and computer experience. Must type at a net rate of 40 wpm on a computer keyboard. -AND- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent GED completion. ------------ Additional Requirements Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire may be required to provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record. Eligibles certified to the Police Department for consideration must successfully complete a polygraph test, an extensive background investigation, and a department interview before receiving conditional offers of employment. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment must successfully complete a medical examination before receiving a final offer of employment. If candidate receives a conditional employment offer, you will be required to successfully complete a medical examination which will include testing for the presence of drugs and alcohol. Any falsification of information provided or any failure to meet the requirements will result in disqualification from further consideration in the selection process for Emergency Services Dispatcher I. The written examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of October 22, 2018. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list. If you have already taken the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) exam within the last 2 years from another State of California agency, you would have received a T-score from that agency.
