    Job Overview

    This job announcement will be accepting candidate submissions until 05 January 2025. AFRL/RDSMC seeks to hire a Cyber Research Principal Investigator in Kihei, HI.

    Position duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Applies novel algorithms to solve multifaceted Department of Defense problems in mission areas including, but not limited to, cybersecurity, logistics, autonomous systems, operational planning, and space domain awareness.
    • Develops new methods or algorithms where body of scientific knowledge is lacking.
    • Recommends investment in supercomputer emerging technology guided by strategic goals given by the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) or the Director of the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC)
    • Defines achievable technical tasks given open-ended problems and develops methodology to resolve anticipated problems.
    • Identifies uncertainties in problem sets and mitigates technical risk through prototyping, rapid testing, and analogous research.
    • Develops methods to evaluate and interpret data to establish research exit criteria and provide conclusive scientific knowledge.
    • Engages in organizational planning activities defining long-term research paths and guiding own and team members' research tasks.
    • Recommends MHPCC development and procurement efforts that support DoD science and technology (S&T), test and evaluation (T&E), acquisition, and warfighter communities.
    • Identifies potential partners of HPC resources and initiates collaborative efforts to support their mission through MHPCC development, resource access, training, or site-specific solutions.
    • Meets expectations dictated by the HPCMP for reliability, performance, cost controls, and other defined metrics.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar field required.
    • Must be a US citizen and be eligible for a Top Secret security clearance.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar field desired.
    • Previous experience conducting individual and team research is desired.

    The position is a 4-year renewable, term position. The position is non-supervisory, but requires excellent communication and organizational skills.
