    Job Overview

    This announcement is accepting applications until February 18, 2025.

    This position directs day-to-day operations for a multi-talented cadre of 100+ military, civilians, and contractors that execute a core budget of $10M to conduct research and development over three unique lines of effort: Integrated Space Structural Systems, Space Electronics Technology, Space Logistics and Robotics. Specifically, the Deputy Branch Chief:

    • Assists the Branch Chief to supervise the Program Manager to manage the technical research portfolio integrated budget and schedule, and determine resource allocations for in-house and contract programs to include contractual personnel and activities for compliance with AF regulations.
    • Supports the Branch Technical Advisor to ensure scientific rigor in all efforts.
    • Assists the Branch Chief in supervising the Team Leads and Engineers who support the branch vision and priorities.
    • Supports coordination with the Portfolio Leads to support the strategic planning of R&D efforts.
    • Applies knowledge of technology development and program management in the execution of various efforts within the branch.
    • Combines systems engineering concepts and cost engineering insights with an overarching view of the branch to ascertain the technical feasibility of program goals, cost, and efficiency.
    • Maintains a clear understanding of branch objectives and remains cognizant of current status and issues. Work will be focused on the managing and allocating resources for research and development efforts in coordination with Program Manager.
    • Supports coordination with Division leadership on strategic vision, staffing, reporting, and supervising.
    • Manages day-to-day facility maintenance and operations.
    • Participates in training branch members by coordinating both formal/informal training and provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and hands-on experience in project development, execution, and management.
    • Responds to AFRL corporate taskers, requests for travel authorization and vouchers, and requests for authorization of low-dollar branch purchases.

    Required Qualifications

    • United States Citizenship
    • Possesses or has the ability to obtain and maintain a TS clearance
    • Minimum of a B.S. in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, 13XX Physical Science, and 15XX Mathematics and Statistics series only.
    • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing.

    Desired Qualifications

    • A Master’s Degree including but not limited to mechanical engineering, computer engineering, or electrical engineering from an accredited school is Highly Desired.
    • Background in Systems Engineering is Desired
    • Background in Project Management is Desired
    • Experience with the space research enterprise
    • Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor a mix of military and civilian personnel and to communicate effectively with team members, AFRL leadership and personnel from a variety of external agencies in the DoD and US Government organizations.
