The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is a Department of Defense (DoD) organization focused exclusively on accelerating the adoption of commercial technology to transform military capability and capacity, while growing the national security innovation base. As the Department's gateway to leading technology companies across the country, DIU is focused on rapid prototyping, fielding, and scaling of commercial solutions that can lead to new operational concepts, increase efficiency, and deter future conflict.
The Global Partnerships Regional Coordinator will develop, manage, and maintain defense innovation relationships with allies and partners across the area of responsibility (AOR) to execute the regional engagement strategy.
The position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Planning, executing, and managing cooperative projects with select partners. These projects may include innovation challenges, summits and conferences, educational programming related to commercial technologies, and other projects.
- Planning visits to the region and coordinating foreign partner visits to DIU. This includes extensive pre-travel coordination with the host nation and interagency partners, drafting and finalizing pre-travel briefing memorandums, and writing post-travel trip reports and executing, as appropriate, on the outcomes.
- Engaging extensively with a wide variety of organizations in domestic and foreign commercial technology sectors, educating them on pathways to doing business with DIU and the DOD, while identifying opportunities for cooperation, co-development and co-production.
- Coordinating regularly with Combatant Commands, OSD Policy, OSD Research and Engineering, OSD Acquisition and Sustainment, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, among other components.
- Coordinating regularly with Embassy Country Teams and relevant State Department offices.
- Developing regional subject matter expertise and conducting research on security and economic issues, commercial technologies, industrial issues, and other relevant topics.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Applicants must be able to obtain, or already have, and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
- This position is a drug-testing designated position. Position may be subject to random drug testing.
- Required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DR/DO-03/GS-14 or equivalent in other pay systems.

Desired Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in policy, economics, international relations, or another related field is preferred.
- A Master’s degree in policy or related field with 3 years of related experience is desired.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and executing cooperative projects with international partners, such as innovation challenges, conferences and education programs.
- Project management experience, including the ability to plan, execute and oversee complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working directly with Combatant Commands, Office of the Secretary of Defense components, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency is highly desirable.
- Security cooperation experience, experience drafting, negotiating, or applying international agreements, and experience with International Traffic in Arms Regulations and commercial export regulations are highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of specific region's security, economic issues and commercial technology landscape.
- Effective written, digital (email/text) and oral communications abilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills and familiarity with working in a digital/virtual environment.
- Strong work ethic and workload ownership.
- Excellent critical thinking, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Workspace tools.
- Team spirit, respect, and ability to embrace diversity of thought.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment as well as independently and pivot to support competing priorities.
- The ability to create and sustain relationships built upon trust both internal and external to the Department of Defense.
