Historic Preservation Training Center TTAP Intern- The White House and President’s Park
Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (STE) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
STE in partnership with the National Park Service and Historic Preservation Training Center are seeking individuals to participate in the Traditional Trades Advancement Program. Participants will receive introductory training in a variety of traditional trades and will develop an understanding of historic resource stewardship while helping to preserve our nation’s historic resources. This program provides participants with marketable skills and excellent exposure to the historic preservation career field within the NPS as well as the private sector.
This internship position will work with Park facilities team and the Historic Preservation Training Center to focus on the historic preservation of The White House and President’s Park. Primary project focus will include, the restoration of masonry hardscape walkways throughout the park that consist of brick pavers along with granite curbs and edging materials.

The Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) is dedicated to providing diverse and underrepresented youth with a professional experience and exposure to technical fields, helping the National Park Service to recruit and develop entry-level talent to build a more technically skilled and inclusive workforce. While also providing meaningful and relevant technical internships for racially and ethnically diverse students and military service members. The goals of this program include, supporting high-priority projects in parks, regional offices, and Washington support offices. Increasing relevancy, diversity, and inclusion in the NPS workplace. While establishing a pipeline for converting talented and diverse students, recent graduates, and service members into career positions in the NPS.
