Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Train Operator in Stockton, CA . The Train Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) passenger trains between Stockton and San Jose, with multiple stops, and other locations as required. Duties and Responsibilities: Operate rail passenger equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to all rules, policies, and regulations applicable to the job. Accept responsibility for the safety and security of all passengers and crew members. Provide customer service to all passengers upon request or as needed. Report to the train yard at the assigned time to: 1. Perform a job briefing; 2. Perform the necessary procedures to qualify the consist prior to departing the maintenance facility. 3. Position the train at the originating station prior to scheduled departure time. Perform switching assignments as requested in cooperation with other departments. Perform all required inspections, tests, procedures, and complete all required paperwork. Identify and document equipment defects on the Daily Equipment Inspection Report. Diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore failures with support from maintenance of equipment personnel. Work as a Train Attendant on a rotating schedule. Work as a crew member along with the Train Attendant and ACE Fare Inspector (FI) assigned to their equipment. The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Qualifications: A valid state motor vehicle operators license. A high school diploma or GED equivalency. Three years of safe, increasingly responsible railroad experience as a certified locomotive engineer; passenger rail operations is preferable. Any combination of education and experience that could provide the knowledge and ability to pass the required initial and annual examinations. Must not have had any railroad operating rule violations or any positive drug and alcohol test results within the past five years. CPR/AED/First Aid qualified. Ability to operate diesel locomotives and passenger cab cars in compliance with Federal and State regulations, Union Pacific General Code of Operating Rules, Air Brake & Train Handling Rules, Union Pacific Timetables and Special Instructions, Union Pacific Safety Rules, Herzog Transit Services, Inc. Special Instructions and Altamont Commuter Express Contractual and Service Instructions. Ability to successfully complete all training and on-going training as required by the job. Must maintain engineer certification. Accepts responsibility for the safety and security of all passengers and crew members. Accepts responsibility for compliance with rules and regulations without direct supervision. Must be able to remain calm, rational and professional at all times while on duty. Must be able to react calmly and effectively in emergency and life threatening situations. Must be able to speak and write clearly in the English language. Must be capable of communicating clearly and effectively with others. Initiates and responds to oral and written communication. Adheres to the highest levels of professionalism at all times by demonstrating honesty, integrity and maturity. Must be able to successfully complete CPR/AED/First Aid certification training successfully and be able to administer in any situation while on duty. Maintain a valid drivers license and endorsements as required per position. Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle. Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works primarily at the controls of railroad equipment. May infrequently be required to work or assist with work adjacent to; on, under or between rolling equipment in varying weather conditions and ambient light levels. The employee may intermittently be required to work adjacent to moving railroad equipment at any time of day; on any track, in either direction. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals, high pressure air hoses, high voltage and varying degrees of vibration. Occasionally this employee is exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils. The noise level in the work environment is usually elevated above that of a normal conversation. Perform a job briefing with all affected persons. Must be able to effectively change tasks at a moment's notice when the situation requires. Some occasional heavy lifting may be required. May be exposed to potential accidents of an incapacitating and or fatal nature. Must wear the required uniform in the performance of duties. The execution of this positions responsibilities normally requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, proper footwear and gloves.
