The AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (RX) seeks to hire a motivated and experienced IT Infrastructure Lead in the Cyber Systems and Information Management Branch (RXOC) of the Integration and Operations Division (RXO).
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as focal point for Information Technology (IT) supporting corporate infrastructure assets and services, advising RX senior leaders & managers on technological trends / opportunities for IT program development.
- Plans, directs, and leads integration/evaluation of new IT technologies which directly support corporate infrastructure and network requirements. Acts as the program manager for the directorate’s primary IT services and support contract.
- Provides IT project management overseeing sustainment, modernization, operation, and compliance of organizational network infrastructure and shared IT resources and services. Manages diverse IT projects through planning, design, acquisition, implementation, and upgrade meeting needs across research, business, and operational domains. Conducts planning and provides recommendations to Branch Chief on task workload and staffing needs.
- Reviews change request documents & advises cybersecurity personnel of potential impacts.
- Applies expertise & working knowledge of cybersecurity policies & industry best practices in designing & implementing IT components & infrastructure.
- Advises leadership and communicates with customer base on general state of IT operations and planned changes and impacts.
- Participates in and oversees planning and tracking of team’s projects and activities. Advocates for resources and tracks expenditures/use of IT assets and related bench stock items.
- Coordinates with local communications group and business managers to ensure projects receive appropriate funding.
- Prepares documentation supporting system authorization. Oversees IT project implementation & maintenance to ensure infrastructure & services meet performance needs & security requirements.Collaborates with counterparts at other AFRL sites for info sharing and participates in AFRL & command level working groups for large scale computing needs & data communications, coordinating compatibility efforts.

Required Qualifications
- US citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Engineering & Technical Management Practitioner certification (or legacy IT Level II certification). Selectee must obtain certification within 60 months.
- 08XX applicants - Possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree, in a relevant technical field, from an accredited (or ABET accredited for engineering) academic institution.
- 1515 applicants - Possess a degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
- 1550 applicants - Possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from an accredited or pre-accredited institution.
- 2210 applicants - Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. All academic degrees and course work must be from an accredited or pre-accredited institution OR IT-related experience demonstrating attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem-solving.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with leading projects in IT disciplines, managing IT service/support contracts, and/or executing IT support for DoD organizations.
- Experience applying IT best practices for improvement of IT service offerings.
- Experience engaging or collaborating with internal and external organizations on IT projects and requirements gathering.
- The ability to work independently and remain responsive to multiple levels within a government laboratory organization.
- Familiarity with IT operations within the DoD, and preferably within the DAF, AFRL and WPAFB environments.
- Team player with ability to lead and work across multi-disciplinary areas.
- Certifications, training, or degrees in IT standards or best practices.
Additional Information
This position will be filled at the DR/DO-II level (GS-12/13 equivalent) and is located at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. Candidates with at least one year of relevant experience at the next lower grade or equivalent in other pay systems will be considered.
