    Job Overview

    The Munitions Directorate seeks to hire a Senior Supervisory Engineer/Scientist (DR-0801/1301-03) in the Science & Technology Division, Energetic Materials Branch, Energetic Material & Initiation Section at Eglin AFB, Florida.

    Position Duties Include:

    • Experience of leading collaborative teams, working independently and with cross-functional organizations, and using these approaches to find and solve complex technical problems.
    • Have experience leading and conducting research into the initiation, performance and dynamic properties of energetic materials.
    • Directs, coordinates and oversees work through subordinate employees.
    • Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of senior management.
    • Leads expert level multidisciplinary professional engineering/scientific work involving the application of electronics, mechanical, systems, aerospace, and/or other engineering disciplines to plan, organize, direct and coordinate significant and complex research projects and/or processes.
    • Applies expert knowledge and advanced engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to ensure assigned projects/processes remain consistent with program objectives, costs, schedules, performance criteria, and existing policies.
    • Applies several diverse engineering/scientific practices, techniques, and processes to identify and resolve difficult issues, as well as ensure resolutions are consistent with program objectives, existing policies, and procedures.
    • Independently defines research objectives and determines how they may be best accomplished, develops and evaluates alternatives, defines the approach, conducts the analyzes, and documents findings and products.
    • Demonstrates a mastery of, and skill in applying, innovative multidisciplinary practices, techniques, and methodology to identify, analyze, and resolve issues; ensures resolutions are consistent with program objectives.
    • Demonstrates creativity and foresight by identifying, preparing, and presenting detailed technical reports and briefings on new concepts and technical directions impacting programs/projects, and defining future technology requirements.
    • Collaborates, interacts, coordinates, and/or directly consults with AF, other governments, DoD, academic, and industry partners.

    To qualify at the DR-3 GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: leading collaborative teams, working independently and with cross-functional organizations, and using these approaches to find and solve complex technical problems. Experience includes leading and conducting research in the initiation, performance and dynamic properties of energetic materials.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    Experience with the technical areas below:

    • Experience related to or supporting energetic materials mission area: concept development, science and technology, research and development, test and evaluation, program management, employment, and/or sustainment.
    • Leading and conducting research into the initiation, performance and dynamic properties of energetic materials.
    • Experience in the supervision of engineers or scientists in a laboratory environment.
    • At least one year of experience with primary duties in weapons/munitions science and technology, research and development, test and evaluation, program management, and/or employment, sustainment.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead or guide cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams to resolve technical or warfighter challenges.
    • Experience distilling strategic and/or leadership guidance into actionable plans or courses of action.
    • Diversity of experience, including successfully completed assignments in multiple organizations across at least two geographic locations.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead people, build consensus, and identify and resolve conflicts/problems with the workforce.
    • The ability to motivate, develop, and grow technical teams.
    • Passion for developing innovative approaches and solutions.
    • Cultivates and sustains a professional environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
    • The ability to work and lead others in complex, non-standard, and fast-paced environments.
    • The ability to support and enable organization program, mission, vision, values, and promote a culture of innovation.
    • Experience with facilitating and enabling internal/external collaboration and partnerships.
    • A Master's or Doctoral Degree is desired in appropriate career field.
    • Completion of Intermediate Developmental Education and/or Senior Developmental Education.
