    POSITION TITLE: Port Operations Superintendent

    POSITION OVERVIEW: Chiquita is seeking a highly adaptable candidate for our facility in Oxnard, California. The ideal candidate will be flexible with working schedules and eager to take ownership of various processes. This exempt role oversees port, yard, and warehouse operations, including planning and supervising processes to maintain safety, cleanliness, cost efficiency, and data accuracy. The position involves a wide range of responsibilities, with initial supervision of a specific area and cross-training for versatility when needed.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Warehouse Supervisor

    Supervise 6 team members (2 coordinators and 4 forklift operators).

    Train and certify forklift operators per OSHA standards.

    Train coordinators on processes and systems to maintain inventory accuracy.

    Oversee daily forklift checklists, maintenance, and battery care.

    Manage preventive and corrective maintenance of warehouse equipment (e.g., truck restrainers, dock levelers).

    Allocate resources to cover operations for two warehouses.

    Improve processes to reduce driver wait times to under 2 hours and optimize fruit staging, cooling, and container loading.

    Transition liner appointments to the MCS system for cold dock transloads, imports, and exports.

    Ensure compliance with customer SOPs for cold dock transloads.

    Assist with physical inventory of fruit and equipment as needed.

    Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly warehouse environment.

    Implement and enforce Container Freight Station (CFS) procedures.

    Coordinate CBP inspections as required.

    Work with HR and management on incident reports and disciplinary actions as needed.

    Vessel Operations Supervisor

    Supervise and train 4 gate clerks.

    Ensure inventory systems are accurate for fruit orders, imports, exports, and empty containers.

    Monitor key processes, such as intermodal equipment inspections, damage reporting, and reefer temperature validations.

    Provide tools and resources for gate staff to perform effectively.

    Maintain a safe, clean, and organized gate and cold dock environment.

    Plan vessel operations to balance customer needs and minimize delays.

    Prepare and distribute vessel operation reports and ensure accurate system updates, including CBP arrivals.

    Assist with physical inventory of fruit and equipment as needed.

    Coordinate container pre-trips for export cargo with M&R.

    Work with GWF and Transportation teams to meet export deadlines.

    Collaborate with the Yard Supervisor to prepare liner imports for dispatch.

    Provide reports to validate invoices and support customer billing for transloads, storage, and demurrage.

    Work with HR and management on incident reports and disciplinary actions as needed.

    Yard Supervisor

    Supervise and train 10 team members (4 clerks, 3 yard truck drivers, and 3 heavy equipment operators).

    Certify drivers and operators in compliance with OSHA standards.

    Train clerks on systems to track equipment locations accurately.

    Maintain a safe, clean, and organized yard environment.

    Ensure refrigerated cargo maintains cold chain integrity, including timely plugging of containers, temperature monitoring, and exception reporting.

    Assign tasks to yard trucks and reach stackers to ensure smooth operations and minimize delays.

    Update the inventory system with accurate container locations and contents.

    Oversee daily equipment checklists and maintenance for yard trucks, reach stackers, and golf carts.

    Ensure all electrical outlets and tools are operational for staff use.

    Assist with physical inventory of fruit and equipment as needed.

    Work with HR and management on incident reports and disciplinary actions as needed.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Associate degree or equivalent experience.

    Minimum 3 years of experience in port and/or yard operations.

    At least 2 years in a leadership role.

    Experience in an intermodal environment preferred.

    Proficiency in Excel and Outlook.

    Ability to quickly learn new computer systems.

    PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

    Combination of office work and fieldwork in areas with heavy equipment traffic.

    Exposure to heavy equipment and 480V plugs.

    Periods of sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and operating office equipment.

    Supervisory role requiring availability for extended schedules, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs.
