    Job Overview

    The Air Force Research Laboratory, Information Directorate (AFRL/RI), seeks to hire an entry-level, DU-01 Recreation Assistant/Aid for our fitness facility located in Rome, New York. The incumbent will assist with the daily operations of our multi-functional fitness facility.

    Position duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Ensure fitness equipment is procured, maintained, and replaced as needed.
    • Inspect serviceability of equipment prior to administering assessments.
    • Ensure safety orientation and standard operating procedures are provided to participants and that they are trained on the rules, regulations, and requirements for specific activities.
    • Ensure the most recent version of fitness software is installed and maintained on equipment used for testing.
    • Monitor a wide range of activities within the fitness center.
    • Maintain order and enforce established rules of safety and behavior.
    • Inspect and clean the fitness areas (cardio room, weight room, karate room, etc.) according to established schedules and instructions.
    • Open and inspect the facility at the beginning of the day and close and secure the facility at the end of the day.
    • Report issues with equipment and facilities to the supervisor.
    • The position may require overtime.

    Required Qualifications

    • US Citizenship
    • This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1 background investigation
    • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov
    • Must acquire CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
    • The position requires active lifting of equipment and bending in the performance of duties. The ability to lift up to 40 pounds is required
    • A pre-employment physical is a condition of employment

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience with Microsoft Suite
    • Customer service or customer-facing work experience
    • Background and / or knowledge of the fitness industry and equipment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to perform equipment demonstrations and educate on proper use
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
