    Job Overview

    The ideal candidate will have substantial experience overseeing, leading, and integrating classified aerial delivered weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation. The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge related to the various weapon subsystems, system engineering as related to system & platform integration, and operational context related to employment and military utility. The ideal candidate will also have experience with Digital Material Management and Operations Analysis as it relates to weapon Science and Technology (S&T). Finally, the ideal candidate will also have prior experience vectoring and leading cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams.

    Position duties include but are not limited to:

    • Serves as Systems Engineer in the Advanced Concepts Division.
    • Manages, with guidance from the portfolio manager and supervisor, the research, development, and demonstration of advanced technologies for air-delivered weapon systems and subsystems.
    • Plans and executes science and technology projects to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives within prescribed fiscal and time constraints.
    • Independently applies science and engineering principles to day-to-day activities and provides informed recommendations for major decisions.
    • Proactively engages with government stakeholders and industry partners as necessary to guide a technology focus area and project-specific objectives.
    • Identifies test requirements, develops test plans, coordinates test organizations/resources/ranges, oversees testing, and analyzes results.
    • Ensures project financial management, contracting, security, and information assurance requirements are met.
    • Advises and recommends technical solutions and provides technical expertise to portfolio managers, branch, and division leadership.
    • Performs duties in a responsive, professional manner consistent with established policies and procedures.
    • Keeps management informed on project status.
    • Trains/mentors junior researchers on processes, procedures, practices, and specific tasks and job techniques.
    • Reports and documents project results through written reports, oral presentations, and appropriate interchange forums.

    • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
    • This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The successful candidate must have the ability to attain the level of Practitioner in APDP Engineering and Technical Management (N).     • Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution

    • Must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the DR-02/GS-13 or equivalent grade level in other pay systems. Specialized experience is knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of engineering and their practical applications.
    • Must file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.

    Desired Qualifications

    • At least 6 years of experience with primary duties in aerial delivered weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation.
    • At least 4 years of technical experience in related weapon systems/sub-systems technical areas, and a firm understanding of system engineering principles.
    • Experience with budgeting, planning, milestone identification, milestone tracking, risk management, budget execution, reporting, and contractor interactions.
    • Familiarity with Digital Material Modeling and its application to weapons development and collaborative environments.
    • Understanding of Ops Analysis and modeling, simulation and analysis (MS&A) related to weapon S&T, at the engineering, system, and/or mission level.
    • Experience working highly classified research and development and/or acquisition programs.
    • Experience interfacing and collaborating across the Department of Defense and Industry research, acquisition, operational communities.
    • Experience cultivating a professional, respectful environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
    • Experience leading cross-functional/multi-disciplinary teams to achieve significant milestones, execute test activities, and/or collaborate with transition partners.
    • Experience addressing complex technical/programmatic challenges with creativity and a sense of urgency.
    • Experience preparing and briefing complex technical concepts to senior leadership and peers, in dynamic forums, to support major project decisions.
