    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Aide - Medical Surgical (2 North/South) - Full Time, Nights (7PM - 7AM, Alternating Days) - NS.

    In this role, the successful candidate Under the supervision of the registered nurse, performs routine service duties and basic nursing procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Maintains patient and service rooms in a clean and orderly condition. Assists with the preparation of the room and equipment for diagnostic procedures. Participates in the orientation process of new employees

    Job Responsibilities:

    * Patient Care Delivery- The nurse aide delivers basic nursing care to provide for
    

    the care and comfort needs of the patient.

    * Responds to patient's call lights promptly to determine patient's needs and relays
    

    information to appropriate nursing personnel.

    * Observes the patient and reports any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a
    

    timely manner.

    * Assists the patient in the activities of daily living- nourishment, ambulation, personal
    

    hygiene, toileting.

    * Adapts care delivery to meet the individual needs of the patient.
    
    * Provides direct nursing care to patients by performing such tasks as vital
    

    signs/weight, complete/partial baths, skin care, Foley catheter care, enemas and

    specimen collection in compliance with policy/procedure.

    * Demonstrates proper turning, positioning and transferring techniques when providing patient care.
    
    * Distributes patient nourishment, assists with feeding as indicated, collects trays at the
    

    end of the meal.

    * Estimates amount of food/fluid consumed by patient at each meal from the tray and
    

    records the data on the flow sheet, Intake & Output record, or Calorie Count Sheet.

    * Maintains a clean, safe and organized patient environment
    
    * Monitors and maintains the service rooms in an orderly manner. Prepares equipment
    

    to be returned to Central Service.

    * Identifies the patient prior to care delivery by checking the identification arm band
    
    * Recognizes safety hazards and acts promptly and appropriately.
    
    * Completes patient rounds on a regular basis to monitor for patient safety.
    
    * Utilizes proper body mechanics and safety measures during the transferring or lifting
    

    of patients or equipment.

    * Demonstrates compliance with the measures outlined in the Falls Prevention Program
    
    * Accepts care assignments willingly and goes to other units when required
    
    * Responds to fluctuation in workload by helping to complete tasks of another staff
    

    member.

    * Willingly completes various errands as requested.
    
    * Interacts effectively with the staff on the unit and in other departments.
    
    * Works collaboratively with management to improve the environment of care for
    

    patients, family and personnel.

    * Seeks out and utilizes the Nurse Manager and Nursing Administrative Supervisor to
    

    address issues that require their assistance to resolve.

    * Participates in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices and
    

    supports measures to improve practice.

    * Attends and participates in educational programs offered in the hospital to maintain
    

    competence.

    * Complies with staff meeting attendance requirements.
    

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or GED
    BLS certification (AHA only) and first aid training.
    De-escalation training provided on job.
    Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the patient's plan of care and to record data on the patient's medical record
    Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations at an elementary school level in order to take and record the patient's weight, vital signs, I & O
    Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity
    Basic analytical skills in order to gather data, complete comparisons, interpret, & report outcomes to the nurse or document on the medical record.
    Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
    Must possess excellent customer service skills

    Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $46,644.00 - $46,644.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
