    Position Summary
    The Process Engineer 1 will be responsible for supporting new project development and monitoring, optimizing, and evaluating existing operating assets. Process development will be in many different sectors including Oil & Gas, Refineries, Pharma, and Alternative Energy. Development will include Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Material Balances, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process simulations, equipment datasheets, and calculations to support projects. Operations support will include monitoring existing assets operation and environmental impact, developing dashboards and training tools, and identifying and implementing process optimization projects.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Engineering – provide process support for new projects, including:

    • Update process simulations
    • Complete material and energy balances
    • Update process flow diagrams (PFDs) and process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Complete process requirements for equipment selection
    • Participate in Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs)
    • Support shop inspection, field commissioning and start-up of projects
    • Support proposal development for new projects
    • Participate in internal and external project meetings

    Operations – support existing operating units, including:

    • Update P&IDs as required
    • Follow Management of Change Protocols
    • Monitor existing facilities operation, develop and track key metrics, optimize existing units to improve performance and reduce energy consumption
    • Support environmental services reporting
    • Work with Operations to troubleshoot and determine root causes

    Work Environment
    Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions is possible for short periods of time—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures. Must be able to travel to jobsites both domestically and internationally (10–20%); living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

    Physical Demands
    While performing the duties of this position, the employee will regularly be required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and work in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. on a regular basis is required.

    Skill / Knowledge / Ability / Education / Experience

    Required:

    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs
    • Ability to work flexible hours; some weekend work may be required
    • Must have a valid driver license and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record
    • Must be at least 21 years of age

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Chemical Engineering
    • Zero (0) to three (3) years of experience in process engineering
    • Process simulation experience beyond a basic level
    • Process knowledge of PFDs and P&IDs
    • EIT registration
    • Operations experience with daily monitoring and optimization
    • Experience with environmental monitoring and reporting (i.e., Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), Renewable Identification Number (RIN) generation, etc.)
    • Strong process, mechanical and electrical aptitude and hands-on experience

    Masters Degree preferred. BA/BS degree or 2 years of additional relevant experience will be considered in lieu of each year of education. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent desired.
