    Job Overview

    Join our team in the Public Affairs Directorate. We are looking to fill the Division Chief position for the Media Operations Division (QZO).

    Position Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the execution of comprehensive PA programs and activities.
    • Supports AFRL and PA mission priorities through innovative communications strategies and tactics.
    • Serves as senior PA Specialist, advising AFRL and PA leadership on potential public and workforce reaction to proposed policies, plans, and actions.
    • Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with commanders and directors; intergovernmental & nongovernmental leaders; local/state/federal elected and appointed officials; news media, think tank, and entertainment industry reps; civic, business, professional, and academic leaders; and the general public.
    • Directs, coordinates, and oversees work through subordinate employees to provide mission organization and enterprise communications support.
    • Develops proactive engagement strategies and tactics for communicating to stakeholders such as White House, Congress, DoD, DAF (USAF & USSF).
    • Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives.
    • Selects/recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, & reassignment in consideration of skills, qualifications, & mission requirements.
    • Supervises team members and promotes a team culture of inclusiveness, customer service, collaboration, & continuous improvement through strong mentoring and coaching.
    • Cultivates and sustains a professional atmosphere of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
    • Develops & employs customer-focused metrics to drive performance.
    • Provides public affairs guidance to research and/or scientific teams to foster collaboration on communications about AFRL science & technology research.
    • Communicates, collaborates, and provides communications advice and counsel to USAF, USSF, MAJCOMS, COCOMS, HQ AFRL, other services, universities, and industry both nationally and internationally.

    Required Qualifications

    • US Citizenship
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
    • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lowest grade level or equivalent of the position being advertised
    • Males must be registered for Selective Service, www.sss.gov

    Desired Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, mass communications or a similar field, or equivalent working experience in those fields (minimum 5 years of relevant experience).
    • Previous experience working in public affairs, journalism, media operations communications, public relations, or a similar professional capacity.
    • Previous experience working in government communications or government relations.
    • Understanding of crisis communications.
    • Teambuilding and leadership skills desired.
