    Job Overview

    The AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to hire a Supervisory Senior General Engineer (DR-0801-03) in the Advanced Concepts Division, Munitions Branch at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

    The ideal candidate will have experience leading engineers, scientists, and contractors in conducting and supporting basic, exploratory, and advanced research and development in all areas related to munitions.

    Position duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Serves as Chief of the Advanced Munitions Branch (RWCD). The Advanced Munitions Branch in the Advanced Concepts Division (RWC) leads a staff of 15+ engineers, scientists, and contractors in conducting and supporting basic, exploratory, and advanced research and development in all areas related to munitions.
    • In coordination with the Division Chief and Portfolio Managers, manages programs that entail unique and challenging complexities, substantial uncertainties, and risks associated with administering the advanced and diverse Science and Technology (S&T) programs.
    • Establishes and implements goals and objectives, policy and procedural guidance for the branch encompassing both general management and technical practices.
    • Prepares short and long range plans for branch activities, infrastructure and employee assignments to most effectively utilize resources to accomplish the mission .
    • Participates at division level with managers of other segments of the laboratory to provide authoritative recommendations concerning structuring and staffing for most effective branch operations.
    • Coordinates with other units within Air Force Research Laboratory and across the weapons enterprise to ensure unified program development.
    • Coordinates with outside organizations to establish operational requirements and collaborate in joint ventures for advanced weapons research.
    • Establishes and maintains liaison with industrial communities as well as other government agencies on the matters pertaining to new technologies and application of technology to provide solutions to operational problems .
    • Assists and advises the RWC Director with planning, organizing, and overseeing all activities within organization .
    • Keeps division management informed on status of branch projects and portfolio plans.
    • Establishes/implements policies and procedures to comply with unique security requirements and achieve organization-wide mission objectives.
    • Promotes a culture where Intellectual Property (IP) is developed, documented, protected, and rewarded.
    • Reviews technical publications as part of technical publication review process.
    • Utilizes scientific/engineering knowledge to assist in IP transfer, transition, or commercialization.
    • Increase enterprise collaboration among Msn Orgs and free up dollars for other critical investments by leveraging other Msn Org expertise, and by defining opportunities to develop cross-msn org technical programs responding to warfighter needs.

    Required Qualifications

    • U.S. Citizenship
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI - Special Sensitive security clearance. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
    • Must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the DR-II or equivalent grade level.

    Desired Qualifications

    • At least three years of team lead or supervisory experience with primary duties in weapon systems and subsystems research, development, demonstration, acquisition, and/or test and evaluation
    • Demonstrated ability to lead a highly technical team to build consensus, seek alternative viewpoints from others, and identify and resolve conflicts/problems with the workforce
    • Experience facilitating and enabling internal/external collaboration and partnerships for research and technology development
    • Experience critically thinking about strategic and/or leadership guidance to organize, train, and equip the workforce to meet mission objectives
    • Experience interfacing/collaborating with or within the Department of Defense research/acquisition community
    • Experience working classified research and development and/or acquisition programs
    • Excellent project management skills to include contracting, finance, and scheduling
    • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to cultivate and sustain a professional environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork in a complex, non-standard, and fast-paced environment
    • Supervisory experience with a technical workforce
