    Medical Device Biomedical Engineer Intern Overview

    This internship opportunity is in the Advanced Development Group within Allergan Aesthetics, Body Contouring. This cross-functional team develops technologies and devices to improve tone and shape of body areas and skin. Under supervision and guidance of a senior principal research scientist in the group, the individual will primarily support research related to energy-based device and soft tissue interaction in skin, fat, and muscle.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Laboratory duties:
      • Microscope slide digitization, photography, organization, and management
      • Assist with organization of laboratory and maintenance of lab devices
      • Data entry and basic data analyses
      • Laboratory sample testing (with specific instructions)
      • Laboratory measurements including: temperature, force, displacement, phase change, thermal and mechanical properties, EM fields, and acoustic measurements
    • Other research activities, including, but not limited to:
      • Assist in pre-clinical studies and technical report preparation
      • Scientific literature search and writing summaries
      • Summarize and write reports of research study results
      • Statistical data analysis using Excel under the direction of R&D scientist
    • Other duties and requirements:
      • Valid driver’s license issued by the state in which the individual resides; good driving record
      • Laboratory duties require completion of blood borne pathogen training. Training will be provided after the employee is hired.
      • Familiarity with biotechnology concepts and practices.
      • Excellent organizational and written communications skills
      • Ability to produce accurate work to tight deadlines
      • Competence in performing general functions within MS-Office software, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
      • Responsible for performing all duties in compliance with FDA’s Quality System Regulation (QSR), ISO13485, the Canadian Medical Device Regulations, and all other international regulatory requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field of study
    • Must be enrolled in undergraduate program the semester following your internship and graduate between August 2024 - July 2025

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to perform computer simulation of mechanical and thermal stresses
    • Create CAD designs and model using SolidWorks or CREO
    • Some hands-on experience in experiments/lab with either animal/tissue/cells.
    • Familiar with biomechanics, mechanobiology, cell transduction, or related e ngineering materials characterization

    The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​

    The salary range is: (minimum: $13,095.96 to maximum: $17,042.67)​​
