Small Molecule API Process Chemistry Intern Overview
The Small Molecule API Development Sciences group plays a key role in the evaluation and development of chemical reactions and processes for the manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Under supervision of a team of scientists in the group, the intern will primarily support benchmarking multiple synthetic methods for a particular transformation.
Key responsibilities include:
• Evaluate chemical transformations utilizing state-of-the-art high-throughput automation platforms and traditional synthesis techniques.
• Interpretate reaction results including identification of reaction products, intermediates, and by-products and rates of their formation.
• Compile and present findings internally and externally, both verbally and in written manuscripts.
Minimum Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in university, pursuing PhD in Organic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
• Expected graduation date between December 2024 - July 2025.
• Ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, providing suggestions for additional experiments, including current methodologies such as photoredox, synthetic electrochemistry or high-pressure techniques.
• Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including detailed analysis of reaction mixtures.
• Troubleshoot experiments, and identify/solve elementary problems in experimental designs, including laboratory experimentation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience contributing to peer-reviewed publications is a plus.
• Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
