    Job Description

    BioCMC Cell Culture Development Internship Overview

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

    The mission of the BioCMC Cell Culture Development organization is to develop bioprocesses for the manufacturing of AbbVie’s early-stage products. The intern will have the opportunity to learn and work on key aspects of developing a robust and high performing fed-batch cell culture process for GMP applications.

    This internship will be based in South San Francisco, CA.

    Key responsibilities may include:

    • Execute tasks for cell culture experiments including media preparation, vial thaw, passaging in shake flasks, ambr250 bioreactor operation and routine usage of analyzers to track cell culture metrics.
    • Troubleshoot equipment and experimental problems as and when they arise.
    • Analyze and compile data from experiments to present in group forums.
    • Document work in electronic database/notebook.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master’s (preferred) or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or other related field.
    • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
    • Previous work experience in a laboratory setting required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Expected graduation date between December 2025 – June 2026.
    • Previous experience with aseptic mammalian cell culture.
    • Effective writer and communicator with ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary scientists.
    • High attention to detail, creativity in problem solving, strong interpersonal skills.
