    Job Description

    AbbVie’s Office of Ethics and Compliance (OEC) plays a critical role in understanding and providing guidance on industry laws and regulations. We in the OEC partner with our stakeholders across the organization to find compliant solutions for our dynamic business needs. As an AbbVie Corporate Compliance Intern, you will participate in a paid, 11-week summer program focused on providing students with meaningful projects through exposure to our OEC teams focused on Compliance Operations, Investigations, Commercial Brand Support, Research and Development Support, Privacy and International Compliance.

    2025 Overview & Responsibilities

    The Compliance Intern, OEC will be immersed in AbbVie’s OEC teams learning about and providing support to real-world compliance matters. The intern will work with members of AbbVie’s OEC team to provide support to various programs and projects. Working closely with different OEC teams, you will have the opportunity to develop a solid understanding of the inner workings of an effective corporate compliance program, in design and in practice.

    The Compliance Intern will partner closely with a manager and mentor who will provide ongoing guidance and professional development. The Intern will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of other valuable networking opportunities.

    The Compliance Intern may be asked to support any number of projects with significant supervision from a Compliance Manager/Director/ Associate Director/Associate Compliance Officer, including the following:

    • Compliance risk assessments
    • Internal investigations program
    • Privacy program
    • Compliance training initiatives
    • Communications campaigns
    • Anti-Bribery and Corruption Program
    • Conflict of Interest process
    • Policy and procedure interpretation and assessments
    • Operational Excellence projects
    • General compliance guidance and advice
    • Audit support
    • Equality, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion projects

    In addition, the intern will be asked to complete a spotlight project on a pre-defined topic that will include performing research and presenting findings at the conclusion of the internship.

    By the end of the summer, the intern will have attained:

    • practical experience working for a global, biopharmaceutical company in an interesting and evolving industry,
    • an understanding of how corporate compliance programs and teams operate and provide value to the company as trusted advisors to the business, and
    • leadership opportunities and experience.

    Qualifications

    • Preferred GPA = 3.0/4.0
    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a bachelor’s degree, including but not limited to the following fields: pre-law/criminal justice, healthcare compliance, legal studies, political science, IT, finance, accounting or marketing
    • Returning to university for at least one semester and graduating within one-year post internship
    • Excellent communication, analytical, leadership and project management skills
    • Demonstrated interest in, and commitment to, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession
    • Desire to learn about healthcare compliance
    • No minimum experience/training required
    • Operates independently with well-defined expectations, checking in frequently with Managers(s). Accountable to OEC Director/Associate Compliance Officer.
